I just reinstalled vista on my inspiron e1505. There's no sound so I'm trying to get drivers. I can't find one that seems to install correctly.

I believe I have the basic sound card that came with all e1505's. So can anyone help?

Go onto Dell's site and type in your service code (or located the driver section for your notebook manually). Then look for a device called Sigmatel Audio. That is your audio device.

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

This is what you have to do: download the driver from Dell using your service tag. Don't install this yet.

Go to device manager, and right-click your audio device and select 'uninstall'. Click on the box that says 'delete drivers as well'. After Vista removes the device, you then install the downloaded driver. Reboot. It should work.

Note the key here is that you must first remove/uninstall the device before installing the driver. Don't ask my why, but it worked for me.
