Hi, im new to these forums, and knowing me ill probably be posting here alot ;)

Anyway, ive had my inspiron 1720 since about christmas, and just recently its started to get really hot. Even when im just using the internet! I have that program that allows you to change fan temperature etc. But in all fairness, i dont even think the fan is working! Theres a noise, but i feel no air coming out of the side atall :/

Right now, (just with firefox open) im running at 56 degrees, and when i play games it typically runs at 80-90. Its quite worrying really, as its very hot to the touch, especially underneath!

Just wondering what i can do to fix this really :/

Try cleaning your fan with some compressed air. You probably have it clogged with dust.

Also, remember that ambient temperature has a big impact on the temps. Now that summer is among us, the laptops will naturally run warmer.

that happened to my Inspiron 1420, it may sound nasty but try to cover as much as possible of the side air exhaust with your mouth and blow as hard as you can like 3 times

a lot of dust came out of my 1420 and now is running quite cooler ;)

Also, raise the back of the laptop by using an empty dvd case or something.

LMAO i love the blow out the air with your mouth thing...its soo old school like cartridge loading consoles. Careful if u do blow the laptop with ur mouth like that as the internals may contain lead or any harmful stuff (fumes, etc).
