hi guys, just got my 640m and it's filled with a lot of bundled software. Can you guys help me out on this? i want to get rid of the unessential ones but im afraid i might screw up my computer.

Basically, i only want the softwares that are useful and take away all the trials and others that only take up space. I can live with all the dell support programs. Programs like Modem Helper, NetWaiting, and the likes are the ones i want to get rid of. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Take a screenshot of everything in "Add/Remove Programs" and post it in reply here. I can tell you EVERYTHING you don't need. This works magic to systems that come preinstalled with garbage

    1. AOHell
    2. Andrea Voice Center
    3. Earthlink Setup Files (Assuming that came with the computer)
    4. Get highspeed internet!
    5. Google Toolbar
    6. MusicMatch
    7. NetZero Installer
    8. View point Media Player.

Be sure to use a good registy cleaner like CClearner after you uninstall all that stuff.

    A few thoughts.
1.There is more than one CD/DVD burning software, both Roxio and Sonic are on there. Get rid of one of them.

    2. If you have no use for realplayer. Get rid of to.

    3. Do you plan to use McAfee?

If you have a copy of xp just reformat the drive and reinstall. Do a search in this forum SouthernGirl wrote a step by step tutorial on how to do it.

Amazing...wow...theres more garbage on name brand computers every time I see them.

This is all junk. Trash it. It's slowing down your computer and taking up space you could be using for important things.

You don't need ANY internet connectivity software, unless your using dial up. You don't need any third-party media players because Windows Media Player and Quicktime will cover all formats. You don't need any of Dell's software that monitors your system. If you ever need support you call because it's easier. Not search through a knowledgebase on your system. And you definately don't need anything else on this list:

    1. America Online
    2. Andrea VoiceCenter
    3. AOL Coach Version 1.0
    4. AOL Connectivity Services
    5. Broadcom Management Programs
    6. Dell CinePlayer
    7. Dell Digital Jukebox Driver
    8. Dell Media Experience
    9. Dell Support 3.1
    10. Digital Content Portal
    11. Digital Line Detect
    12. Earthlink setup files
    13. Get High Speed Internet!
    14. Learn2 Player
    15. Modem Helper
    16. Musicmatch Jukebox
    17. NetWaiting
    18. NetZeroInstallers
    19. QuickBooks Simple Start Special Edition
    20. QuickSet
    21. Search Assist
    22. URL Assistant
    23. WebCyberCoach 3.2 Dell

Also, agreeing with Metamorphical, if you don't use RealPlayer trash it too.

And agreeing with gridtalker, if you have XP reformat. But make sure you have Dells restore disc to pull the necessary drivers off it after the install, such as sound, video, etc.
