    I bought my laptop from ebay a month ago.
    I bought it from a guy that seels hundreds of laptops 2nd hand
    It has a 801 day warranty according to the dell website + my service tag.
    I try to claim my warranty and they wont accsept because my name dosnt match that of the original purchaser... Am i stuck??

    Ps the problem is the hard drive - It wont spin up.

    Thanks anyway... I know i havnt been here long but i would be really grateful if somone gave me some advice , Im new to notbooks but im currently always on my laptop :) No more of my pc - Which is half the spec and i spent double the price in january. :)

    I brought my 1520 from a bloke on ebay aswell. I'm in the uk lite. I called dell and asked for the ownership to be transfered. They took my details and the only question they asked was the name of the person i brought it from. Email the bloke you brought it from and ask him what name he brought it in and then call dell.

    I agree with morkfromork;

    and about the warrenty, you should just asl dell double check again,looking into the items on the purchase list. it should be there. I got the same problem as dell said the warrenty is outdated. however, after few hours of argument, they said they found it. but the next day the same thing happend again. ask them to put a note down the file, that will speed the things. now it only take me 5 mins to get them recognise I had warrenty. :)

    Ok , Ive got this far and now they are coming to the door and have a brand new hard drive in his hands , Problem is he wont give it to me unless i give him a faulty hard drive ...

    Im a tidy person , I really dont like cluttering my computer stuff up... I chucked out my old hard drive as it was deemed useless by a tech guy that lives near us...

    I tried approaching them saying that it containes buisness infromation so i cant give it to them... But now ive come clean saying ive chucked it out... Is there nothing i can do???

    hmm... you have to be responsible for that. Dell will charge you if they replace the HDD without having the old HDD back...

    how does dell know it wasnt a good hard drive and you are keeping it as a second, or selling it on ebay. I'm sorry, but i can not feel bad for you in this situation. your going to have to go and buy a new hard drive yourself.
