    I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 that gives me an error message in the Device Manager for my cd/dvd drive - (code 41) Windows successfully loaded device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. What does this mean? Does the drive need to be replace? or is there a fix? Warranty on machine is over.

    Try this-

    From the Start Menu, open Control Panel
    Double-click on System, then Device Manager
    Find the CD/DVD Drive in the list, then right-click and choose Uninstall
    Restart your laptop and allow it to find the device and install the correct driver

    Hopefully, that will work....if not, here's more info on the error code and possible fixes- LINK

    Allfiredup;

    Thanks for the help. Tried the uninstall first, laptop found the hardware but still would not detect.

    So, used the link you provided and looked up error code 41. Found out that when I installed Norton 360, I ended up deleting some required drivers, (ie Microsoft digital imaging driver). I used the Microsoft Mr. Fix-it tool and automatically detected which driver I deleted and fixed it.

    Thanks again....we are up and running.
