    Hi all,

my new Dell inspiron 6400 arrived yesterday, with Vista installed. I installed many of my softwares incld antivirus, office etc., and even partitioned the root C drive. Before that i never ran the dell media direct.

On running it first time - while starting - it says Making dell media direct files as i'm running it for first time - and then i get a blue screen error - 0x000000F4. I tried re-installing the Media direct from the DVD provided - but while re-installing -" it says my hard drive is not ready for the installation - please boot from dvd itself."

I contacted dell, and i've told as i've partitioned my hard-disk, it may have caused media direct non-functional. Also, PC restore may also not work.

Please help me to fix it.

I say go under your MS-dos when you start your notebook, and format your C drive. Do a clean install of the OS, and see if that works. Windows Vista is not that stable as well, so I recommend install XP instead if you can.

    Hello There!
I am having the same issue with Dell 6400.
    I formatted Laptop.
    Solution:
When we recv the laptop its configured with Media Direct 3 XP Pro operating System but Dell people do not send us that software.
They send us An Application CD for Media Direct and Reinstallation XP Pro CD.
When I contacted Dell guys to Send me CD - They want me buy the software from microsoft.
Luckily My laptop is still under 15 days cooling off peroid so i would be sending it back.
So, the only solution is to buy the software.
Contact dell Customer Care and ask them about it.

    Take Care

MD3 is VERY picky as to the order you install.

    1. Boot your laptop with MD3 in the CD drive.
    2. Let MD3 partition your drive.
    3. It will then tell you to install Vista, do that.
    4. Once Vista is up and running, install MD3 by running Dellkit.exe on the MD3 disk with as an administrator.

That should get you up and running. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Personally, I dumped MD3 as hibernating vista boots just as fast and I get the same battery life out of the two. Good luck!
