If your a gamer then you should just buy the best of whatever you can get.. lol. Because the games are just going to keep on requiring more and more..

I've heard the performance increase is not noticeable; Save yourself a few bucks and go for the 533 stick.

I think that there is a slight improvement in performance 1-5%, but i heard it had higher memory latency, but the price is not a lot more expensive than the 533mhz one, so i personally get it.

If you read the reviews carefully, a majority of them are DOA. That is expected for Ram, a few bad sticks, just get it replaced. I have heard good things about ocz as well as gskill (kingston and crucial are well known). Other people were trying to use the ram in laptops that have slots that dont even accept them, others were using it in computers that don't have ddr2 capabilites. Some people probably didn't even plug it in all the way. I would say it's a safe bet with either. BTW I'm using OCZ ram @ 533mhz. Fast, however I have run memtest86+ and there have been errors on two tests that I ran. One test for 17 hours had no errors. OCZ support is awesome, so I'm trying to fix the problem with them. I have heard the difference is neglible anyway (between 533 and 667).

The primary difference between "Value" RAM and regular or performance RAM is the testing done to it - the value RAM is not tested to the extent of the performance/regular and therefore might not stand up as well to extreme performance testing - it could fail, etc. But such occurances are rare. ValueSelect is fine for the vast majority of the people out there, even gamers.

    I found a 1GB DDR2-667 So-DIMM for $79:

If you can spend the extra ten bucks, go for it, otherwise there won't be any problems with the DDR2-533.

Take the cheapest (branded) ram you can find. Personal experience has shown that the differences in performance are only noticable in benchmarks. Unless saving a few seconds on media encoding really matter to you I cannot reccomend more expensive RAM.

I have recently got an OCZ 1GB 667 stick and from few tests i done i have seen only changes in benchmark utils, but no real performance gain with games...
