ok so I thought I bought an inspiron with a 8600m GS, vista, GPU-Z, sis-soft all report it a 8400m GS 128mb card. I bought a 8600m GT ebay installed it and the BIOS and vista and all other programs still see it as a 8400M GS. Is there a reason for it doing this? The p/no ties up to be the 8600m gt 256mb but pc wont install it as that... p/no: cn-0yy636-70091...... can anyone provide any assistance before i send this new card back?

Have you updated drivers for the 8600m GS?

looking back it seems i did have the 8400m GS not the 8600m GS(to start), but still no joy with this. The new gfx card is still seen in bios and sisoft, device manager, nvidia control panel as a 8400M GS 128mb ...
