    Hi friends,

I am wondering if someone could help me...

I want to gift my friend (who is in Austria), a laptop. I selected VOSTRO model. But I am not sure if I can send him by regural mail or not.
I heard that if I send him directly he has to pay some taxes...

    Please help me....

    Thanks in advance..

    MAKKY

Yes, if you send it to him you would have to pay the import duties and stuff

Alternatively, you can ask someone going there to carry it with him as his personal laptop, and I dont think anything would be charged for it.

A better way, If you have an international credit card, you can order it on the Dell Austria site and pay for it using your card. That way Dell takes care of all the taxes and stuff and would save you a lot of time too...

ooh well thank you very much for the reply. I do have an international card, but if i am buying it her in US, i can avail a discount of around 200$ in total from some coupon i found out here in this site..., I tried using this coupon in Austrian site with no result....

Yes, usually the coupon' are specific for the US....

But yeah, try either sending it through someone (as the other member said) and I prefer this too.. because I think u can get it for cheaper (w/ or w/o the coupon) compared to EU since there is something like 15% vat / tax around here....

Edit: And btw, you might want to double check on the warranty options / international warranty details.... just to be sure :)

    Good Luck.

Sending him the laptop woudnt really be advisable according to me, because you would have to purchase the 3year full NBD warranty for it to be valid with Dell Austria too, that would simply erode the cost advantage you get by using the coupon.

If you send it to your friend without the 3 year warranty, he wont be eligible for support with Dell Austria
