Isn't there like a 30 day satisfaction guarantee or something for consumers? If you want to earn back the $200 then you can probably return what you got under the satisfaction guarantee and re-order.

I eval dell units all the time and we have to actually issue a PO as if we are going to buy it then return it within 30 days to get our money back no questions asked. We even we tell them up front they are going to eval and they told us to buy it then return it.

there is the 30 day.......... But isn't it a hassle to ship it back to them, and them to refund you.how long does that usually take? and cant i get something extra sent to me for the price difference? what they said when i bought is they need a good reason to return it.

Why not just call them and ask about this. They might give you some credit or refund or something, rather than having to take back a return.

    Abishek22,

Its all in what that $200 is worth to you. Is it worth the wait? Is it worth the hassle?

Call dell and tell them your dilemma and see what the say. I would be point blank about it... I am going to return this if I don't get some compensation for the price drop within 30 days of my purchase. That costs you nothing but some time. My guess is they will blow you off but then again you might get surprised.

It's not part of Dell's policy to refund money on a price change.

You WILL have set up a return order, send your current M1330 back, then re-order another with the cheaper price and hope the one you get in return isn't faulty.

    Here's what I would do.

If you are completely satisfied with your m1330 - No defects or problems that you can find, then save yourself teh possible trouble and keep the one you have.

If your current m1330 has problems - as can be found on the boards - then I would take the time to send yours back and re-order at the cheaper price.

EDIT: Why in the world would you pay for Norton Anti-virus? *puke*

I think it would be a good idea just to stick with the one you have if they're ain't nothing wrong with it, and chance getting a faulty system thats for sure! Hope that'll help you out!

    Why buy Norton.......................................Why not.

Its not free with a dell system in india. u need to pay about 19$ more for 1 1/2 yrs pack as opposed to buying it for 49$ for 1 year from a shop. Some how i prefer using a paid version of Norton not a pirated or illegal due to repeated experiences where i have lost data using a pirated Version as opposed to never losing my OS using Paid version of Norton, However if the topic is Macfe vs Norton well its my call

Welcome to the way Dell works. If you don't like it, perhaps a Dell is not for you.

You made the purchase at the advertised price......obviously you were prepared to pay that amount otherwise you wouldn't have pulled the proverbial trigger.

Now you're having buyers remorse because you see the price has gone down, and you feel that Dell owes you something. Dell owes you NOTHING!!!

You lost all credibility with this statement.

Now I was under the impression that Dell would refund any difference in price over 30 days? Is that incorrect?

If it's $200, I would certainly return the unit and receive the difference. That being said, I'm not in a rush for the unit either. (Also assuming Dell charges no restocking fee)

I ordered an XPS M1530 last Wednesday and my parents told me that they just received a package from Dell. During the weekend deal, my laptop could have cost me $100 less.

I called Dell on Sunday and told them about the deal, and politely asked what options I have... The rep. said I could either return it and order it again or if I just wanted the price difference, he could credit me $100. I chose the 2nd option, and in addition he upgraded the original 3-5 day shipping to the next-business day shipping at no extra charge.

You just have to call, talk about the situation, and be polite. There is no reason to blackmail anybody to get what you want....

    Khris,

You are pretty much correct. Dell is under no obligation. It also never hurts to try though. Different CS reps will most likely give you different answers. Looking at HCP's response he got someone willing to work with him on it.

Dell doesnt want to get a new (slightly used) unit back and have to sell it at a discount or refurbish it. When I suggested telling them that you expect a credit or they are getting it back I wasnt intending that to be "Blackmail" I meant just tell the truth. Being polite and honest always gets you further than being a jerk and lying.

Dell is under no obligation to adjust the price you paid. However, as you as still within your 30 day return period you are holding all the cards. Think about how much more it would cost dell to take your return and then build you another system. My guess is they most likely will credit you for the difference if you call them and dig your heels in. Ask nicely at first of course but be firm.

The CS says the sales person who did the deal for me quit her job, so he says he'll try tohelp out & he 'd try to get me A BAG OF GOODIES subject to approval from his supervisor, and that he'd get back to me.

Ah!! blackmail is just a term after all u guys have more experience at returning stuff so I'm here.No offense thou. :p .Thx

There is one that comes with all XPS laptops but it'll only fit the laptop and nothing else at all! Which kinda sucks but if you got the 65w Air/Auto/AC adapter that is slim, it came with a bag for that too, so I'd think you would be set for that, but if you think you might drop the system you probably should get an extra one. Then I would definitely reccomend for that reason!

I bought a 1530, then 2 weeks later I could configuire the same thing about $180.00 cheaper. I called them and they offered to credit my Dell account $150.00 instead of me reordering. I took the offer.

You could have asked for the entire $180 and let them realize that they will be paying shipping cost (if you get them to do so) and that they will have a machine that will sell for less in the outlet. However, it is up to you if you wanted to go through the hazzle of waiting for another system.

Yeah I I had the same thing happen to me on my 1700 vostro. I would go for the refund, but the 1700 I have works so damn well for work and home that I cant see myself without it for an hour let alone a week or so.

    Hi,

Like the others have mentioned, Dell is under no obligation to offer you any credit or compensation. That being said, however, 200 USD is a lot of money and if I were you, I would certainly push for the credit or return the system. Most of Dell laptop/nylon bags cost under 100 dollars (and their cost is even less). If that is all CS is offering you and if you really fell bad about the 200 USD price drop (which I assume you are since you came here to post it), go for the return.

If you want to keep your current system, then I guess you may have to forgoe the 200 dollar reduction (that's like 8,000 Rs isn't it?). If I were you however, I am pretty sure I could put the Rs. 8k into some great accessories for the m1330.

I spoke to my CS person who says dell is under no obligation to do anything as " electronic hardware prices tend to drop and rise and dell can't charge a customer if the price increases tomorrow on a system ordered today" :D

but since i am a dell customer he would be able to extend the xps warranty to two years with full Accident cover and complete care. Now i have told him ok thats acceptable , but for me to be happy and completely satisfied i d like a bluetooth mouse thrown in too. ;) . he says he'd check and let me know, how ever the mouse seems to be under a cloud of uncertainty. the warranty extension has been done.

i stand to loose abt 200$ or about 8,000 indian rupees if i return the laptop. It seems as the Tax paid here is non refundable. the tax is about 10% here. so either ways i couldn't be happier :D
