If you go into your BIOS when the computer first starts up and try inserting a CD there does it auto-eject? What if you insert your Windows installation media and attempt to boot off of it, does that work? Have you tried logging into Safe Mode and attempting to insert a CD from there?

Do you have Windows Vista or Windows XP?

I'm fairly certain that the auto-eject is triggered by software, so you might try removing and reinstalling any burning software you use that would implement that function.

If the drive is ejecting CDs at the BIOS, then it's probably a fault in the drive itself and it may need to be replaced. Dell tech support might help you reseat the drive to see if that would make any difference. If the drive does not eject CDs when you insert them at the BIOS screen, then the problem is most likely software related and you should be able to resolve it without sending the laptop in for service or replacing the CD drive. I'd look for the burning software to be a culprit. You might also try going to Device Manager and removing the CD/DVD drive's entry as well as the Secondary IDE Controller found under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.

If all else fails, contact Dell for further troubleshooting and/or an RMA.

I tried all recomendations, after having bad results i called dell the send a drive replacement, the problem has been solved, by the way it is impressive how they have to dismantle the whole computer to get to the drive, older laptops drives were easy to acces.

That's because a slot-load system doesn't allow for an easy bay removal.

i have the same problem, it will not accept disks. The dvd rom just auto-ejects disks every time even in the bios.
