Im in need of a new computer. I was thinking DEll just because of all the coupons available online..
I dont really use it for gaming, so thats not a concern. Only need it for internet and basic computer things. Also will have to add on Movie Magic Budgeting/Scheduling and office i suppose.
been looking around and I hear everyone saying to get low memory and do aftermarket upgrades? Anything else I should be knowing?
What are the diffences between the 6000/9300/600m/700m systems? What would you get? Any other coupons or deals out there?
Thanks in advance!

Well it first depends where are you going to be taking this laptop. If you travel a lot then you might want to look at the 700m. If you want more of a desktop replacement, the 9300/6000 would be your best bet. The reason i didnt include the 600m because it is 3 years old and i really have no favor for it any more. Then 9300 is basically made for the gamer almost and people who want a huge screen. Since you said you are only going to be doing basic stuff, i would say the 6000. Its a nice 15.4 inch laptop and if you go to the homepage of this site or new and reviews, there was a nice review just posted today on it.
And yes, try to get the lowest memory because dell over charges there memory. installing memory afterwards is really not that big of deal and if you need any help with the process, you can also ask us.

Welcome to the forums
We have coupons located on our main page of this site or under Dell Coupons tab located at the tab. They can range anywhere from 250 off to 750 depending on the total cost of your configuration. They do expire, sometimes fairly quickly, but dell does issue new ones every week.
Basically from smallest to largest size of screen, the notebooks go like this 700m (smallest with 12in), 600m, 6000, 9300 (largest with 17in).
Here is a comparison chart that might help you with the differences between each notebook http://www1.us.dell.com/content/top...&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~lt=popup&~tab=2&redirect=1
For entertainment purposes like watching dvds or photo editing, I would suggest to go with the 9300. It is portable, but not as light as the other notebooks. If you are wanting a good mid-range notebook that isn't terribly expensive, but will last for awhile, the 6000 would probably be the best choice (although its not worth anything over $1500 dollars).
All 4 of the notebooks will do your basic functions, so in reality, it just depends on what size you want and how much you want to spend.

tru dat,
It sounds like you won't need anything more than a budget laptop. Have you looked at the B130? Packs good punch for under $600 -
For what you need, I agree with AngryLlama, it's an affordable laptop, with surprisingly decent specs for a laptop of that price.

Thanks for the responses everyone... Ive looked at the B130, but I think i'd like a little more punch. Like DVD Burner and such.
I think I may go with the 6000... it seems to be the best for the price I guess.. -

Agreed, the 6000 is a great comp for the price

Don't exclude the M140 (630m). In my opinion, that would be the laptop of choice for you, as it contains all the same components as the 6000, but is 1.4" less in screen size. (It is a 14" notebook making it a little more mobile friendly).
Check out that one. On the U.S. site it is under XPS M140 and is targeted towards individuals who watch DVDs, listen to music and view photos/basic editing. It will do limited gaming such as the 6000. -
While the XPS looks great, the coupons dont work for that series, which makes the computer that much more expensive. THink it might be a little out of my range as of now.. thanks for the suggestion though..
-
Ya, that is true. On the Dell Canada site, it is not part of XPS, just another Inspiron. However, there are nowhere near the kind of deals/coupons available to Canadian consumers as their is in the U.S. for some reason. That is Dell for you. By the way, watch the price flucuations before you make your move. But don't wait too long or you'll see yourself well into 2006 still starting at Dell.com. Trust me, a lot of us have been there.
