I'm in search of a very basic laptop for about $600.
Can't decide between these two:
Vostro 1500 (from outlet)- $634
Vostro 1400 (NEW)- $654
Both configurations have this in common: intel core 2 duo T5270, 2GB ram
The 1500 has a 160GB hard drive & intel graphics card
The 1400 has a 120GB hard drive & NVDIA graphics card
I know it's only a $20 difference, but which would you choose??

I should add this this will only be used for internet surfing and storing music & pics. No gaming, movie watching, etc...
-
id take the 1400.
-
Yep, i would get the 1400 also.

1400...............

I would go with the 1400. You can always buy an external hard drive if you end up needing more space, but you can never upgrade the graphics card. Even if you don't plan on gaming, a discrete graphics card will add to the longevity of your system.

so the 1400, huh?
is it 'cause:
- it's brand-spankin' new
or
- has a superior graphics card?
another 1500 with 160GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, C2D 1.4, AND the NVIDIA card for the same price($634) as the 1500config i mentioned above just popped up on the outlet... -
I'd actually say go with the first 1500.
because you said you will never use it for games etc. I also figure you probably won't want to carry around an external drive to go with it. and since you are planning on using it for movies/music storage the extra 40gb may actually be more useful than a better graphics card that you are unlikely to use.
however... the size difference may actually be something important to you... I'd go to a kiosk and lay hands on both sizes just to be sure. we're not exactly comparing apples to apples. -
Read some of the Vostro reviews and discussions they were very helpful to me.
I'm have a few quirks with IE errors but they are minor.
I'm very happy with my first notebook purchase so far.
Help again with Vostro!
