It may not be compatible version with win 7, if its not you will loose it.

for now you can download Nero 9 free and it works better then Roxio IMHO

    Nero 9 Free link

I put it on all my families laptops

Doesn't that version just copy discs? Isn't that built in to Windows 7 anyway, and/or available from lots of free utilities that aren't 55 MB downloads? ImgBurn is 2 MB.

You mean you didn't got the Roxio Creator CD with your Studio? If I were you I would have contacted Dell. Everything that came pre-installed in my Studio 1555 came with a backup media disk, except the 30 day McAfee ofcourse.

I agree with you ImgBurn has way more features

also you can log into dell with your service tag number and get the software that shipped with your computer if you lost the disk.

Not necessarily. When I try to register my 1737 it says "Service Tag is not supported." Works fine for my 14z - and my 1737's Service Tag works fine on the driver download site.

Skip Roxio. Get Nero Micro. Such a better, less bloated product.

Does Nero allow you to burn blue-rays? I have the same issue with my xps 16. It came with Roxio Studio 10 but it is gone after the Win7 install and Dell did not send me a disc nor is it available on the my dell downloads.

My Studio 17 was purchased in January '08. I can't say whether it ever worked or not because I wasn't aware of its existence until recently.

For my 14z it does show a limited number of downloads for apps, although I'm not sure what that accomplishes. If your intent is to distribute it to people who shouldn't get it, then clearly you'd make sure to put your downloaded copy in a safe place. If you're just an ordinary user trying to recover from a crash or an OS install, it shouldn't matter how many times it happens to you.

I did notice though that when a new version of software came out, the download counter reset itself.
