Just out of curiosity, can you manually upgrade the hard drive by buying a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive from new egg or something? Is it easily upgradable like RAM? Can the processor be manually upgraded too? Or is it soddered on?

Yes you can upgrade the harddrive. Very simple.

Yes you can upgrade the CPU, less simple but not that complicated.

here's a link to the service manual.

Which would you choose and why? Just FYI in case you didn't know. LEDs provide an increase in battery life and a much nicer display.

I would go for the 1680x1050 (WSXGA+) screen. I have it on my Inspiron 1520 and it is the perfect resolution. I think the 1920x1200 (WUXGA) screen would be just a bit much for my needs. I couldn't imagine anything less than WSXGA+ on a 15.4" screen.

I've seen people replacing their T7500 with an engineering sample of X9000. Although that doesn't make it any faster than my T9300 due to other bottlenecks :)

1680x1050 is good for me. Lower resolutions have too little screen real estate and the WUXGA is a little too small for my eyes.

Well, guess I'm the only one going with the LED here :)

Just arranged a return for my 3-week-old 1530 and placed an order for the LED version.

I'm having extreme difficulty in deciding which of the two to get. I like how the 1680 x1050 lets you see a lot, but it does not have LED.

1440 x 1050 is a lower resolution, however it does have LED. Does it really outweigh? Is there a noticable difference?

LED doesn't mean as much for M1530, it doesn't get slimmer like M1330.

First you need to try to figure out whether your eyes would be happy with the higher resolution (and unfortunately that can require a few days to find out). What resolution are you using at the moment?

LED backlights are more efficient so that option should extend the battery run time, but whether it will be significant depends on the rest of the hardware configuration.

I ordered the 1680x1050. My eyes are bad, so when it comes I hope it isn't super small. If it is, i'll send it back. I plan on using an external monitor 90% of the time, so I might be able to just deal with the smaller resolution. I might be happy with it. I dunno. I guess I will wait and see.

And my suggestion is, if you are unsure about the resolution part, go to a local store and check out some systems with the different resolutions. This won't help with the LED part of your dilema, but it'll help you decide which resolution is best for you.

I currently use the 1680 x 1050 with my Dell E1505. I don't care much about battery life, but with actual screen quality.

I heard a lot about the Macbook having a killer screen with LED lit.
Does the M1530 LED Lit truly look much better than that of a standard non-led lit 1680 screen?

Is this game playable on the M1530 at decent graphic settings?

Also just for clarification, the system requirements are a 2.6 ghz Pentium D Processor, so does the T9300 2.5 ghz cut it?

Well actually, that would depend on your gpu not cpu; if you have the 8400, not very well, but if you have the 8600 you can play much more comfortably.

I personally believe that screens are a completely hit-or-miss thing because laptop companies both expensive to very expensive, all source their screens from the same companies. So you have to figure out what panel it is and then you can say which panel is better than the other based on manufacturer for that particular resolution and size. Then of course, it's luck of the draw which brand you get. LG seems to be doing a good job lately.

So this myth about the macbooks having killer screens is unfounded unless someone can prove to me that they're only sourcing 13.3 inch screens from one place that the 13" sony's with LEDs don't use or the m1330 13" from dell doesn't use.

I had an LED SZ and have an m1330 LED and know that they are chi-mei optics screens, and not surprisingly, they are basically exactly the same. EXACTLY. So now I can say I got a Sony quality screen for a Dell price. Apple doesn't have anything special regarding screen quality, trust me. It's not better and no worse.

led means that you have a better dark light (contrast) ratio so it would improve your multimedia experience on your notebook, but the higher resolution is better for HD movies, and i have had a 1920x1200 screen before i bought my m1530 with a 1680x1050 screen and i can say that 1920x1200 is a bit to small, especially when you get older and your eyes are not as good as they used to be. so i would choose the higher resolution but if there is made a 1680 x 1050 led screen i would buy that even if it costs 100 dollars/euros more

off course the 8700 sli, but your buying a notebook, when you travel and you have a sli configuration in your notebook, you need every 20 minutes a powersource to reload your battery, but with a more exonomic video card your can use it for hours

It would run better on the 8700 SLI
I run it on my 8800SLI with all settings maxed. When I first load the game it stutters since its loading the map. But what I tend to do is pan the camera round Altair while he stands still. This loads the map entirely, and its smooth gameplay after that - looks amazing ;)

but i could go with something with a dual 8700 and then upgrade and it would cost around the same price as a new m1730 with 8800M SLI, maybe a bit more, but if i saved for it then the price wouldnt matter as much, as i need the laptop sooner rather then later.......

Well, could you tell me how your LEDs stack up with regular CCFL. I never get a definite answer either. I don't really care about bettery life or the screen is thinner than regular CCFL. I want to know the quaity and the brightness of the screen. Personally, I am very happy with my WXGA, and I did compare my screen with ultra bright screen, which has 2 lamps, from HP. It is 17" notebook, and I don't see much different between the screens. I just curious about LED.

    Thanks,

Not sure you'd be "dumbing down." My own 15" machine's resolution is 1440x900, and everything is much easier to read than when I had a 15" laptop with 1680x1050. It's possible that you might miss the extra screen "real estate" at times, but the return is a screen which is much easier on your eyes when reading text, IMO. I wouldn't go back to the higher resolution for any reason.

Try using a screen with resolution 1440 and see if you have enough room. The LED will be brigther and use less power, consider if it's worth the extra money.

Personally I really like the 1680 and wouldn't choose for the LED.

    ------------------------------------------------
    WXGA = 1366*768
    WSXGA = 1440 * 900
    WSXGA+ = 1680 * 1050

No, my experience is that they will not...if the order is already in production...They will cancel the order, and start all over. ;)

Even, when my 1530 was in production, and because my Wireless N card was on backorder (Dell's fault)...they had to cancel (refresh)...and start all over with a new order number, and such... ;) :)

So, if you do call and asked to have something changed..be prepared that your order will be cancelled, and you will have to start fresh ;) :)

    Hope that helps ;) :)
