I have a ATI 3650 and for some reason its Core Clock is 450Mhz and the Memory Clock is 500Mhz

When I look up the HD Mobility Radeon HD 3650 on Notebookcheck it shows its supposed to be 600Mhz Core Clock and 700Mhz Memory

I have the newest Drivers using Mobility Modder. And could not be happier with its performance to date. However I would like to squeeze a bit more from it for Command & Conquer 4 coming up.

I have 4GB DDR2 800mhz and a T9400 2.53Ghz CPU 6MB cache and 1066mhz FSB. Its plenty fast the CPU is hardly stressed by Command & Conquer 3 now on Ultra settings but even at lower resolutions like 1680x1050 or 1440x900 my frame rates are low. And I do step it back from Ultra settings.

Is there anything I can do, principally why the HD3650 Mobility Radeon shows on all the spec sites as 600Mhz Core and 700Mhz memory and mine shows so much lower.

I figured it out, Playing C&C 3 on Ultra settinsg about 40 frames per second 1440x900 BUT no AA Anti ailiasing AA kills me down to 15 frames. Even on Ultra settings at 1080p its very playable but for some reason AA, brings down the performance alot.

Pretty happy now. And no over clocking yet. Maybe for Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3
    or C&C 4

Did you have to modify anything to get it to work with your 4570?

It does not work for me.

hmmm ur right it doesnt work although i swore it worked the first time i tried it out (i saw the clocks change in gpu-z) but not it goes back to default whenever i click apply. their forum said it shud work on non-msi cards as well so im not sure.

ignore what i said earlier lol. guess u have to overclock it using rivatuner.

I use RBE and reflashed the ATI cards in my M17X. Not sure if it will be the same but I don't see why not. It worked well, but I only used it for benchmarking. Never needed to OC for games. It just requires reflashing the vbios, which is up to you if your willing to do it.

I have thought about it but RBE doesnt support the HD4570 yet.

I pretty much set up everything pretty good, grabbed a copy of Command & Conquer 3 Deluxe Edition on Clearance at Best Buy for $9.99, Normally $39.99 because C&C4 is coming out.

And The complete pack after downloading all the updates is capped at 30 frames per second which is what I get on Ultra Setting but no AA antialiasing

    pretty good.

My only confusion is why my HD 3650 is rated at 450Mhz and 500Mhz when all the reviews and Specs show 600Mhz and 700Mhz.

Maybe I will over clock it to those speeds and leave it there.

Use either GPUTool or RivaTuner, either will work. I like to use GPUTool for testing and then once I find the right settings, I would put in those into RivaTuner so it starts them on restart. You do need to mod your .inf file in the RivaTuner I think, to recognize the mobility card. There were a few different ways or doing it, but basically need to plug in the PID for your card (use gpu-z to find).

Even if you manage to overclock the GPU, the 3650 is woefully underpowered even compared to the 4650 in the newer studios. You're looking at a Vantage GPU score of ~700. The 4650 clocks in at ~2500.

Watching my bud struggle to play games on his Studio 17 RGBLED w/ a T9900 (3.06ghz, 6mb cache, 1066) and have to dial back details and resolution on anything approaching modern gaming to eek out so-so framerates is painful. Then again, I told him so, so ah well.

You're right in that your 2.53ghz C2D is plenty fast and the GPU is definitely the bottleneck. Any and all OC'ing will help.

Thats right even If I stuck a T9900 in my 1737 which I may do , It would not help because for example C&C3 only sees 1 CPU and it does not even tax or stress that fully, Since the T9400 which is rated at 2.53Ghz nicely Turbo Boosts using Intels Dynamic Acceleration of 1 core to 2.66Ghz. Games really need to start using both cores and going 64-bit. I may try over clocking, the graphics but so far I am satisfied I played the Command & Conquer 4 Beta last night on ULTRA settings No AA and 1440x900 resolution and it was great PC ran great 200 units on screen and the frame rate stayed very fluid.

What really helps the 4650 4670 mobile cards shine is that they use DDR3 RAM where I am stuck with DDR2 800 RAM 4GB and 256MB of I guess DDR2 RAM dedicated to the HD3650 clocked at 500mhz

Defnitely time for a change but I will wait for Sandy Bridge and 58xx series ATI cards. It will be worth it.

In the meantime I hope the ViDock 2 really gets going they clain they can swap out the 4870 card and swap in a 58xx series Evergreen card but I have not seen anyone do it.

I have a Dell Studio 1735 with a Radeon 3650, I've been overclocking it using AMD GPU Clock Tool. I believe I'm using 0.9.26. My typical overclock settings are 650MHz for the core engine clock and 520MHz for the memory clock. With adequate cooling with a cooling pad (I own the Enermax Aeolus), I can push up the core engine clock even higher, but 520MHz seems to be the limit for the memory clock.

Back when I had Vista, I was able to use AMD GPU Clock Tool to check the video card's temperature, but not in Windows 7. It doesn't matter too much, I suppose.

    Hello Ice,

    Have you checked compatibility?
    Just an FYI for you.

It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibilty.)
Windows 7 Compatibility: Resources for PCs, Devices and Software Programs
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".

There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
Windows Client | Deploy, Manage, Desktop, 7, Vista, XP | TechNet

In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!

As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here Windows 7 IT Pro Category . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assitance and support.

    Thanks again,
    John M.
