I'd say go for the Vista 64 bit...I used to use the 32bit versions before and now on my studio I have the 64bit version..i havent faced any compatibility issues yet and its pretty stable and fast...

I dont think there is any point in going for the creative update...It doesnt increase the volume or anything, I guess its just a software for better equalization of sound...

go for the 1080p display if u watch lot of HD's, though the 900p is also good...while I havent seen either of the two,my 720p is good enough...

and yes the 7200rpm will make some diff in performance but it all depends on which model/make of HD u get...

Buying through the website will give you more options in customization, as well as possibily cheaper with discounts. Drawback here is you don't get it the day you order it. It may take a week to a couple of weeks.

64 Bit, there have been no Vista 64 bit driver problems.

Integrated CREATIVE Sound Blaster(R) X-Fi MB Audio Software Solution is just a software that allows you to control the sound settings, like an equalizer. If you're familiar with that type of software and would like it, I'd say go for it, its not an expensive upgrade.

My recommendation, especially if you watch full HD like Blurays all the time, is to go with the 1080p display option. This screen is absolutely beautiful, and HD movies will look fantastic. I didn't expect it to look so great and now i regret not getting the blu ray drive. Anyways, SD movies will look worse full screen than on the smaller resolution screens though, because it has to scale up much greater than the 900 or 720 panels. Its not that significant but it is somewhat noticeable.

7200 vs 5400, you will only notice performance difference if you do a lot of harddrive intensive work, like recording video or sound, converting movies burning movies etc. Overall you won't find a significant boost to performance though. Hardly noticeable in most situations. Keep in mind the 7200 takes a little more energy so battery life is affected, as well as in the past they do generate more heat, not sure how efficient they are nowadays.

Win 7 Upgrade depends on the OS you already have.

    32 Bit Vista >> 32 Bit Win 7
    64 Bit Vista >> 64 Bit Win 7

As for the screen, it depends what you want to use the laptop for, however the best of the best is the 1080p Screen.

720p is Fine for normal use such as web browsing although there is a big difference with the 1080p for photo/video editing ;)

That's personal choice. You should get whichever you like more.

Keep in mind that black is glossy. Red (and other colors) have a matte surface and cost extra.

    Short answer: No probably not.

Long answer: Yes, but the difference is so marginal that if you noticed it I'd be massively suprised. Most people don't max out their CPUs hardly ever if they have a fairly decent one. However, it depends about which 2.53 GHz C2D you are talking about. I can't see an option for anything over a 2.4GHz P8600 other than a 2.8GHz chip, so let me give you some info:

    P9500 / T9400 are both 45nm 2.53GHz Core 2 Duos, but have a 6MB L2 Cache
    P8700 is a 45nm 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo, but only has a 3MB L2 Cache

So if the CPU is a P8700, then the only difference you will see is an improvement in max CPU frequency of an amazing 130MHz (or in percentage terms 5.4%). You'd only ever notice this when your CPU is maxed out, which for the vast majority of people is very rarely, or rather is very rare that it is maxed out for long enough to worry about the difference.

However if you are talking about a P9500 / T9400 then it's a slightly different story.

You see, the L2 Cache here has been doubled. Doubling your L2 Cache can result in a performance boost for some programs under some situations, and you might see a performance increase in those instances of maybe 1 - 15%. Again, it wont be all the time, as quite often your CPU is sat there doing very little.

Here is a post that explains about the L2 Cache, along with a table showing performance improvements (all though this is showing the difference between 2MB and 4MB in a desktop processor, the principle will be the same). Note though, that doubling the L2 Cache has a more pronounced impact if you are doubling it from a lower number in the first place, i.e. 2MB > 4MB will show better improvement in most situations than 3MB > 6MB. Not always mind.

I am going to upgrade my CPU, but only because this is how my machine looks at the moment:

The low bit was when I was writing some queries, the peak is where my notebook is probably 70% of the time when I'm using it for anything other than web browsing or gaming (which isn't very often). Also, me thinks I need more RAM........ but then I do use my notebook as a development environment for SQL server stuff I do. My Core i7 desktop is often sat looking the same way, but it's my live environment and used a lot lot lot more.

I seriously doubt your machine would look anything like the above, and therefore you'd be fine with the P8600. Also probably quite a hefty saving to be had by not going to the 2.53GHz processor!
