I am buying a Inspiron E1505 for my son for college. It will be configured towards the high end since that is the college's recommendation and I want to get him 2GB of memory.
Is it reasonable/correct to order the laptop with the base 512 mem and then buy the following from newegg for about $70 each to get to 2 GB memory?

    OCZ 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Notebook Memory - Retail
    Cas Latency 4
    Timing 4-4-4-8
    Voltage 1.8V
    ECC No
    Buffered/Registered Unbuffered
    Heat Spreader No

The Dell config wants $300 to upgrade to 2 GB and this would cut that price in half, even if I just discard the 512 that comes with the system.

Crucial's web site best price is $265 for a 2GB kit.
Thanks for any advice as this will be our first laptop...

That OCZ ram would work perfectly with the E1505. You just unscrew the panel on the bottom of the laptop and slide these in.

By the way...if you just happen to not need that leftover 512mb ddr533 stick of memory...l know someone who could use it.

Most of us do buy our ram for newegg, so as long as you get the right type, it will work in your system perfectly fine. In fact, most of us recommend buying your RAM from newegg.com or somewhere online since it is so much cheaper. Dell has outrageous prices for their RAM.
