My girl has an Inspiron 1501 with the dell wireless 1390 b/g mini-card. Can I upgrade it to a dell or intel wireless N mini card? and if so has anyone done it and can you give me the part number for the new mini-card.

    Thanks!

any mini pci express card is compatible as long as you got the drivers

i personally have a WI-01GT (check google or ebay) but am looking to get the gn-w106n-rh which is the wireless N version. They are gigabyte cards based off the atheros chipset which is known to be the best wireless cards.

These atheros chipset cards come standard in most lenovo laptops. My selling point is they are the only guarenteed wireless cards with native linux support using the madwifi drivers. The gn-w106n-rh is comparable to the macbook pro card. They both use the atheros ar5008 chipset. Look for a ar5008 card and thats what you want

DO NOT GET AN INTEL WIRELESS CARD FOR AN AMD BASED CHIPSET!! Trust me, stick with atheros or broadcom.

No it isn't so it be a worthless upgrade, you'd get the range of N, but the speed of G.
