Hi i have a dell 1520 with the new A09(?) bios and i was hoping to get some help picking a cpu. I have 1.5 C2D right now.

Can i get any socket P CPU?

Im thinking about getting a 2.4ghz but there are a few out there. There is the -T8300 800fsb 35W thermal power
    Or
    -P8600 1066fsb 25W thermal power

What one will work in my laptop?

WTF is thermal power and how do i know what my mobo can handle?

Yes, you can get any Socket P CPU. The T8300 will be the best choice.

The P8600 though it will work, there is no point in paying the extra cost because your motherboard is not Montevina meaning your 1066FSB will drop down to 800FSB, and will only support DDR2 ram and not DDR3.

Your 1.5 C2D... your Dell 1520 is a Santa Rosa right? If it is, then you can use any Socket P as mentioned, but if not... you can't.

Dell 1520 is already Santa Rosa, so yeah, everything that I said above applies.

Thanks for the compliment! I made it myself. It is my personal gift for reaching 2,000 posts today. Felt it would be more suitable, being an an Angel on NBR and all watching over everyone. :)

If you like doing things on your computer with many windows open, then yes, it would be worth it. If you will not be having a lot of folders open or multitasking, then it isn't that big of a deal. However the T9300 is the best whereas the T9500 is a rip since the only difference is the 100mhz increase.

While I am usually all about trying to get in to the newest chip sets for speed / power consumption improvements, it is just really hard to justify the super high price of entry. And like what was already pointed out, if the system bus is capped at 667-800 mghz you just won't see the full benefit.

You are better off just making sure you have a clock speed of 2.0-higher and plenty of RAM for your Apps.

Will the T9600 work on the 1520? I am basically looking for the fastest CPU I can put in there without having it worry about it melting down.. I have the T7500 right now.
