I just got my Dell 1501. And I was wondering if anyone could help me decide which programs to uninstall and with programs I can turn off at msconfig startup?

Here's the list of the programs:

Here's the list of the MS config startups (part 1):

Well, firstly, the are many articles on the web that describe what each Windows process does and whether it's necessary. Simply Google it.

As for the start up programs, use this as your guideline:
Don't judge programs by how useful they are, but whether or not they need to start with Windows.
You'd be surprised how many people leave things such as Adobe speed launch in the start up programs simply because they like Adobe software. Which, they should, but that does not justify starting with Windows. If I want to use Adobe Reader, I'll start it myself.

My advice is similar to Matt's. Each computer user is different, so we have different needs.

With that said, there are several guides that give you opinions on what should be turned on/off. This is probably my most recommended guide to help out with the services.msc:
    http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm

With the services.msc, if you are not sure what the process does and google doesn't help, it is best to leave it in it's default state. In services.msc, it is possible to turn something off that would lock your system.

In MSConfig, you won't have any trouble as long as you stay in the "start up tab". Everything can be turned off in the startup tab, and your laptop will still run. I turn everything off except for my antivirus, wifi software and a few other select programs that i like to have started.
