Let me convey my apologies first if its already been posted before. I tried searching for it in the forums but I couldn't get a correct answer. Moreover, I heard different versions from different Customer care representatives of Dell making me much more confused.
Here's the query.
I am planning to buy Dell 1520 model. I need to decide upon the warranty. My overall aim is to get warranty/support in India for a dell laptop bought in USA.
There are two kinds of warranty available in the cofiguration choices:
1) Limited warranty and mail in service
2) In home service, parts + labour.
Does any of the above imply next business day warranty? I ask this because, I heard two different versions regarding the international warranty
1) If i take 3 year extended warranty, by default I get the international warranty
2) Any warranty having the next business day warranty implies that it has international warranty.
Let me clarify my requirements. I am not a frequent traveler. But as there is a huge price difference compared to India and US, I want to buy the notebook in US. I want my notebook to be supported even in India. I see that I can make an international transfer of ownership. If I do that, will the limited warranty or the in home service warranty too get transferred? So can I assume that after the international transfer, it as a kind of international warranty?
I would be very glad if i hear from someone regarding the same as I am going mad on this as no one dell representative seems to give me the same answer.

Look up International Tag Transfer and read the fine print.
The only transferrable warranty is the Next Business day warranty and it only applies to certain countries, such as Canada.
See if it applies to India, simple as that. -
The dell site( http://www.dell.com/content/topics/...c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~section=transfer_times) says that for transfer from USA to Asia Pacific would happen the next business day... implying transfer to India is possible.
But does any of the warranty options.. limited warranty and in house warranty imply Next business day warranty? If not any idea on the cost of NBD in USA?
Moreover, international tag transfer doesn't say that it doesn't transfer warranty types other than NBD. Can some one please confirm the same? -
There is only one type of next business day and it is on site as in "at home". they come to you.

In fact I`m unsure whether an International Transfer is at all required.
It`s a laptop and bound to be with you at all times. Businessmen travel often and can be in different countries at different times.
If when in a country your laptop has issues, simply call Dell and they`ll service it the next day. If parts are not available then they`ll ship it and it could take a few more days to arrive, but that`s it for worldwide coverage. -
Well regarding pb9997 respose, for international warranties. You can call dell toll free number and they can support you regarding the troubleshooting of the problem but just in case there would be any replacement for any part. Then that's when the problem comes because Dell can only ship a part and cannot service an onsite tech regarding this. Specially if systems are purchased inside USA because the warranty itself is only applicable inside USA. Not unless your staying permanently outside USA and you want to transfer your account to that specific country that your in. By the way shipping parts outside USA will take time to tell the truth it will take almost a month to ship the package that would only be the "turn around time" at least the maximum.

I`m sure shipment of parts, including on site service, under `Medium & Large Business` is immediate, regardless of country one is in - issue fixed in a matter of 2-3 days if part not available in the country.
Agree that other rules may apply for Home & Small Business though. -
Well if ever there is a dell service provide in that place and they have a stock of the said part that will be possible.

Well I am planning to make an international transfer once I move to India. But it looks like there are some requirements on the warranty type to make a transfer.
So to put it simple, will i be able to transfer the default 1 year limited warranty to India? I get different versions from Dell representatives..saying that.. 1) I should have at least 3 year warranty..and another 2) if i have NBD its enough..eventhough it is for 1 year.
Any idea on which is true? -
Here's the info for India's customer service number. Try to call them and ask regarding your concerns.
