I just picked up the m1530 and wanted to stick a 320gb hd into it. I looked at the manual and it seems pretty simple. I just don't want to mess up this new computer. ;) I wanted to know if everything that I need to boot up and do a clean install of vista is available from the included disks? I wanted to know if the media direct partition would be installed on this new WD 320gb if I follow the directions from this forum on how to do an install without the bloatware.

Yes to the clean install; what directions are you looking at?

Take the HD out, put the new one in, stick your Media Direct CD in (if you choose), it will make the partition, and then stick in your Vista CD and your done.

Well that goes beyond the actual harddrive replacement.

After you put in media direct disc and intall the OS (Vista) may I suggest you do the following:
Click on the link and download SP1 for Vista
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6D-5EBB-413B-89C9-CB3D06D12674&displaylang=en
Install the SP1 Update BEFORE you load the drivers from the driver disc that came with the laptop, then load up your drivers and your set. I had no SP1 issues doing it this way.
You can also download higher performance video drivers here:

What model is Speed: 250GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor?

I want to order and install this manually into my computer. Does anyone know if it is on new egg? Does it have to be a certain size like 2.5 inch or what?

I was just wanted to make sure that dell included the vista boot up disk and OS. I have a sony and they didn't give me anything in terms of recovery disks, I either had to manually burn one or use the partition on the hd. Since I am replacing the hd with the 320gb one, I wouldn't be able to load the OS. Anyways, I just read that they are starting to release 320gb 7200rpm drives
