If you are looking for better performance( speed), then go for CPU, or if you are looking for high resolution then go for display.

Its depend on you , what type of task you doing, even if you upgrade display now, you still able to upgrade CPu later, so i think you should not be worry about CPU now.

Go for the 1440x900 screen. I got it on my XPS and it looks gorgeous, and despite what the numbers might suggest there is a HUGE difference in how good your screen looks and what you can fit on.

If you are enthusiastic about computers I would go for the display upgrade. If you are an average user that wouldn't know the difference unless it was pointed out to them then I wouldn't bother upgrading either.

What you want to do with the laptop isn't that demanding. The T8100 probably won't be any faster for your programming work unless you are compiling insane programs lol.
