? why is the T6400 not powerful enough? What are you running?

I have the T4200 with pretty much the same specs ( save the Cache)

Have you looked into your Ram? how much do you have? 8gb would do a lot.

Anyway I have never done something like this but wanted to find out why you need to.

Your processor is not the problem

your video card is an older intel that is a problem and when I checked your dell is only upgradeable to 4gb ram?

You may want to check on that

    how old is it?

On the contrary, he wants an SSD. Not a new processor, more memory, or a new GPU. The HDD is almost always the bottleneck in "loading" situations; only with say netbooks or top of the line SSDs would we start seeing CPU limited loading situations.

Additionally, the Studio 1737 has a 45 series chipset and should support up to 8GB of memory. The older Studio 1735 had a 965 series chipset and could only support up to 4GB of memory.

+1 on the SSD, neat video on you tube of a guy with a 2.8Ghz pentium single core loading windows 7 in like 14 seconds (after BIOS)...

    Can't wait to buy a 80GB Intel X25-M G2

Besides for ~$230 US, it's alot cheaper than a new CPU.
