Now I havent played a DVD on a computer in quite a while, but now that I got my new E1705 I decided just for the sake of using it I would play DVDs on it.
I performed a reformat and didn't have all the discs from Dell yet, but I did get a copy of PowerDVD 7. While it does play DVDs, the playback quality doesnt seem that great. I would almost describe it as grainy. I thought this might just be a problem with the laptop, but the same thing happens on my desktop as well. However when you scale down the window down, the graininess goes away and it appears sharper (this makes sense of course).
Is this just how DVD playback on computer is? Any recommendations? Any settings I should adjust? Or should I just get the software from Dell?

Saddly this is how dvd's are when your so used to watching windows at 1440x or 1680x. Also I find that software dvd players tend to create a noticable blur compared to stand alone players.

Make sure that you're plugged into an outlet. That can have a serious effect on DVD playback for some reason.

Also, if you want to create a little better image, download VLC media player and enable deinterlacing. Deinterlacing improves video playback quality greatly. It's as close to progressive scan as a computer will get.

That's 480i(native) against 1200p
I think all the high rez screens will be in for a treat when HD disks and laptop players get "really" here.
