I'm thinking of getting an SSD, but I'm worried if there's anything I have to do in the BIOS to get it working. I saw one video where a guy had to enter the BIOS and change few settings but others just simply installed it and worked. Reason why I'm worried is that I have access to the BIOS. but not the settings as I've forgotten the bloody admin password. Also would a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5 inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive work with this model?

I think you need to change settings in BIOS so you can bootup from BIOS. When you replace the HD with SSD, there won't be anything to read from it

I've called Dell tech support to make sure, and the guy on the phone said there's no need to access the BIOS as you just simply replace the HDD with SSD and poof you're done.

here is a thing bud, when you put the new SSD - this will be new and there won't be anything in it
so you need to install OS onto it, in order to do that you need to get into BIOS and ask it to reboot from DVD.

Try your procedure first and let us know how it works

ehhh. I think were not on same wave length. I thought that cloning is easier and a common way process when installing a SSD and that is what I'll be doing. I've should of mention it but as I've said, I wouldn't of thought some people would do clean install but obviously depending on the case, it would be different. But thanks for the help man, and sorry for wasting your time. :)

    EDIT

Does Samsung cloning software, completely clones the whole HDD, like factory restore? If you know maybe..???

That's ok. Also would you recommend to use store music onto SSD 250GB? I enjoy listening to music and having them place on the laptop drive is handy, it's just that I'm not sure if its a good idea. On my C: drive, I've used 143 GB and 778 free space (I've got a 1 TB HDD). There's a few games but not sure what takes up the most. I got a an extra 500 GB external drive and I use that for storing music, Photos, Software, Backups.

    Thanks:hi2:

i read some where, you should keep atleast 20% of hard drive free all time
so i guess you can store all music on SSD and enjoy them
