I just got my new E1505 and it is driving me insane. Takes 1 1/2 to 2 minutes to boot up. I have Norton is driving me nuts. I didn't check any of the boxes that said "No preinstalled software" so the machine came loaded with bloatware. I would like to know of any resources for better performance. Most of the threads for performance are in regards to Windows XP and I have Vista. I would like to do a clean installation of windows, but I am terrified of screwing stuff up. Sorry for the new thread, but after waiting months I finally have my first laptop and want to get the best performance possible (without messing things up).

Just uninstall everything you don't want, or use MSCONFIG to modify the startup item list.

How do I know for sure that things like Norton have been deleted? Some of these programs are like weeds.

A clean install is an easier fix for your problem but if you'd rather just clean up the mess, use your Control Panel to uninstall unwanted/unnecessary programs. Follow up with a manual search of your machine (a lot of uninstallers don't really uninstall very well) and delete what you find. Use CCleaner or a registry cleaner to delete remnants.

Edit: This will probably help you to get rid of Norton.

It's not that I don't want a clean install, I actually really really do want a nice clean version of vista  It is just that while my computer skills are better than many of my friends, they are quite limited compared to most people on this board. I still want everything to work properly, like Dell Media Direct, Bluetooth, Wireless Card, Sound, etc.

Didn't they give you both a Windows disc and a drivers disc?

There are lots of guides for reformatting and reinstalling Windows, especially for Dells. SG started one a while ago - am not sure if it's been updated for Vista, but it's worth seeing anyway. Do a forums and/or Google search and you'll find plenty of information on how to reformat your Dell.

I just uninstalled all the software i didnt want and ran ccleaner and my dell runs awesome. It boots and starts an app in about 30seconds i turn it on and off all the time for quick 15 minutes music sorting on my breaks LOL. Anyways i was like you and scared i would mess up stuff because i really like having the media direct working properly. When i first powered on my dell i didnt even start to install anything, when i got the popups for click yes to register and install norton i clicked no and went from there. It should run fine if you just delete all unwanted software.

If someone can post all the bloatware that comes with the E1505, that would be awesome. If possible, it would be awesome if someone made a guide on it.

But how would Dell Media Direct and all of the partitions work be setup? Do I even need the Recovery Partition and Dell MD Partitions? I want Dell MD on the computer for the simple fact that I don't like media buttons on my laptop that do nothing. I have read over Seven Lima's reinstallation guide, but am unsure what will happen with these types of things.
