I have been using my D630 for about 4wks (7300, 2mb ram, vista ult.) and I find this machine running slower than my 4yr IBM R40. It seems to hang-up or operate very slowly while using several programs. The worst is IE7 and it times out, fails to load a page, becomes non-responsive or unstable. I downloaded Firefox and it is not much better. I also seem to have the same problems with Outlook or any other program that accesses the web. I connect wirelessly and everything seems to be in order. I am also running Mcafee Security Suite. I turned off the phising filter on IE7. I spent 3hrs on the phone with tech support to only have them make things worse by trying a system restore that failed. I run a small law firm and all I want is a stable computer that is reliable and does what it is supposed to. This Dell has been very disappointing as I find myself spending more time working on IT problems that legal issues. I am hoping that someone on this forum might have some suggestions. Maybe it is just a Vista issue, but if it is a hardware problem I will call back Dell.

    Thank you.

What's running in the background? I did a clean install of Vista Business on my R60. It seems around the same speed as XP.

Press ctrl-alt-delete to get the task manager, go to the "Processes" tab, and see what's eating up your cpu and memory.

Are you sure it's not a network connectivity issue? Can you try disabling wireless in the network control panel, and using an ethernet connection? Also, try disabling McAfee, just in case that's the culprit.
