I'm trying to find a good price to sell my current laptop at to help cover the cost of buying a new Dell 700m. Here are the specs:
Sony Vaio PCG-FRV25:
2.66 GHz Intel Pentium 4
512 MB DDR SDRAM
40 GB Hard Disk
CD-RW: 24x (read), 24x (write), 10x (rewrite); DVD-ROM: 8x;
Windows XP Home Edition
15.00 inch active-matrix display
7.72 hundredths-pounds
Any suggestion for a price now and maybe a year from now? It's about 2 years old and I got it for about 1,500 or so.

Look like around $700 on eBay

Someone might be hoping for $700 on Ebay but buying this new right now is only $999, just under! JJD probably did see it but It's only a wishful, hopeful feeling on the owners part. Sad Isn't it?
You also mentioned in possibly another year so you're talking $350/$400 if you're lucky. There are other options that might be more worth it or at least try it but don't wait another year. If you know someone and they know you and see how well hopefully you took care of it,then you have a much better chance at getting a higher price.
I went through this in January and it made me sad.
All the best and good luck,

I would suggest selling it to someone not very familiar with computers. You're more likely to get a better price. I've got a Vaio desktop with very similar features as yours and it's plenty fast for someone who is looking for their first system. Just ask friends and neighbors and offer to throw in a few lessons.
The sooner you sell it the better!
I paid $1500 for my Compaq Presario 1625 back in 1998. How much do you think I can get for that bad boy? It works just like it did the day I bought it. Slow as hell
AMD-K6 266MHz MMX enhanced processor, 3.2GB Hard Drive, Internal 24x Max CD-ROM, 128-bit Accelerated PCI graphics w/MPEG, integrated JBL Pro Speakers, 12.1" High Performance Addressing Display (HPA), Touch Pad pointing device and SoftTouch Palm Rests, Internal 56K modem, bundled with a 10/100Mbit Ethernet Ready PC Card, Lithion Ion battery, Easy Access Buttons, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, Win95, Works.
P.S. Please don't actually give me an estimate. I think I'll shoot it with my 12 gauge instead!

I have the same frustration with my HP desktop. It is the worst thing in the world to go from a fast laptop to a slow pc.
Another suggestion, you might want to put an ad in the paper for a certain amount and see if you get any offers.

I had a very similar model that came out the year before yours. I had the GRZ630 and sold it for $650 at college. It was going for $700 but a 256mb stick of ram crapped out during a demonstration to a buyer. X_X
Best bet is to get to a college campus and post up flyers.
Help with reselling...
