Hi all. I'm new here, and i'm bruno.
I'm spanish, so... my english isn't very well, but i'll do my best :).

I have just received my new Dell Vostro 1400, and i have two questions:

    first:
I installed windows xp, following this guide
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=88032#drivers
It really helped me, everything is working okay.

But when i enter to de device manager, there is one in a yellow mark, and it is:
"Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
I dont know which driver download for it, i didnt download it before. (big mistake i guess) and the notebook is working perfectly :S.

So i hope that comeone could tell me which driver is.

    Web to the drivers

    second:
It is about the battery life.

My brother says that if i use the battery until it gets empty, and then recharge, then get empty again... recharge... get empty it will have a long life.

But i'm not so sure, if i'm not wrong, i read in the manual that while the battery is being used and recharged again, and again, the life of the battery will be short.

So i wanna know, what do i do?
Use the notebook always connected to the ac adapter, or use it only for recharge??

Pls I really need to know.

Well that's all, i hope i expressed myself well.
    Thanks in advance.
    Bye

That missing driver is the 56k modem, so if you need it download it, otherwise don't bother. About the battery, if you don't use it then take it out of your laptop. Obviously the more you use it and recharge it, the more wear it's gonna have, so it would not be good to constantly drain it and recharge it if you don't need to do it.

Also read the Battery Guide for more information about taking care of your batteries.

OOh the battery guide was really useful :)

And I guess that the driver doesn't matter... my notebook is okay :).

    Thank you guys.

    aaa another question:

To take the battery out... is necessary to shut down the notebook, and then retire it? or i can connect the ac adapter, and i'm able to take it out? (while the notebook is on)

    Thanks
    Cya

It's always recommended to take the battery out while the computer is turned off. However, in theory, it should not cause any problems to take the battery out while the machine is on if it's plugged into AC power.

I often take the battery out and put the battery in while the A/C adapter is plugged in... I haven't had any issues with it.
