Hi all, I have an inspiron 1420 that up until 2 days ago always worked fine. Suddenly many websites wont open at all or partially open. Ones that do open , take forever.Tried Dell chat support 2 times . 1st. time tech took over computer remotely made a few adjustments then we were disconnected. 2nd attempt was told to run diagnostics, took so long that again connection was lost. Test didnt show anything. Any one have any ideas for somethings I could try myself?
system is 1420, 2.0, 160/7200. Has always been fast and worked well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you using wireless or wired connection?
If it's wired, can you use the same specific cable to get on the 'net with another computer? If it's wireless, are there other computers using the same wireless network that are working?

If the answer to either of the above questions is yes, then the issue is with your computer. if it's no, then it's a problem with your network, i.e. router, modem, etc.

I am using a wireless connection, other computers are working fine. I assume it`s my computer. The internet opens to my homepage but from there on it`s a problem. Thanks for the reply.

The homepage is likely cached - so you're likely not getting on the net. Assuming you're on Vista, you'll want to find the network adapter screen, through the network and sharing center in the control panel. Look for "change adapter settings" or something of that sort on the sidebar. From there, see if the wireless adapter is enabled:

If it is enabled, right click on it, disable it, and the enable it again. this generally works.

If it's not enabled, then this may have been your issue in the first place, so just right click and enable it.

Let me know if this solves your problem.

Find MBAM (Malwarebytes AntiMalware), rename MBAM.exe to AnythingElse.exe, start your system up in safe mode, install and run. All fixed.

thanks, but further investigation finds that all computers have slown down. I checked connection from modem to router and found it was loose. Wire was not making solid contact, re-wired end to modem and all is fine now. Thanks for all the help.
