im looking at a friends brand new inspiron 1520 here..

problem: no audio in xp pro sp2.

solutions: reinstalled newest sigmatel audio drivers
    reinstalled xp pro sp2

oddity: When xp boots into desktop a system audio event notification pops up (sigmatel software) and claims it has detected an audio connection event in the RIGHT PANEL BLACK JACK and asks me to choose a supported function: Mic, Line in or sigmatel control panel (tried each..no luck with sound...)

question: what the hell is this?? i only see two audio jacks, one for headphones and one for the mic, both on the LEFT side of the notebook. Nothing is plugged into these ports.

    help? thanks.

Plug something into the jack, sometimes the jacks get stuck and turn off the internal speakers.
