I was cleaning my keyboard with some cleaning fluid where I spilled some on my keyboard and now its not working at all. The laptop runs fine but the keyboard is completely dead can anyone tell me is it simply the keyboard or have I screwed the motherboard up?.

If everything else works fine, you've probably just messed up the keyboard. The only way to tell for sure, though, is to buy a new keyboard and give it a spin...

Fortunately these look to be going for just over £10 on eBay, so I would say it's probably worth a go: eBay search: 1720 Keyboard

    Hi

The media buttons are dead too? :(. Guess it can't be the keyboard?.

I believe that the plamrest (The palmrest contains circuity of the keyboard, touchpad and media button control) is dead as fluid has leaked into the gaps through the bottom part of the palmrest.

You may want to call Dell for a plamrest replacement and keyboard. If not under warranty just give it a shot at ebay or parts-people.com, alot cheaper than buying replacement parts from Dell store.

If you ask me seriously for the past 2 years, I don't rely on the use of fluids to clean my 1720.
