Okay, I have just purchase my dell studio and received at december 20th 08
Does it support 8gbs of ram and also how do I know if it is the new montivina.

Which processor do you have? There are reports of the 1537 working fine with 8GB.
-
also it seems when i plug in my laptop and at around 75% it makes a whiny low noise. Wierd thing is if i click to go to a new webpage it stops until its loaded. What can be the problem?
-
Oh i have the 2.0ghz t5800
EDIT I would like to put about 5-6gb of ram, is my system going to fully use that much ram if i have a 64bit os or am i just wasting my money. -
Oh when i pull the plug out the noise stops.
I think the system is struggling for power.
EDIT: THIS IS IMPORTANT, I PUT MY EAR TO THE HARDDRIVE AND I CLEARLY HEAR THE SOUND. IS THIS A FAULTY HARDDRIVE OR IS THIS NORMAL. Also when its done charging the noise stop.
Btw, i always notice my harddrive a bit noisy. Like you can hear the disc spin or something. I really dont want to send back my laptop because i actually finally finish installing all my software and stuff after a month. Its going to be a pain in the A$$ if i have to get a new harddrive. -

Your hard drive is just fine. Don't be a hypochondriac. Mine does it too. Your processor isn't one of the new processors because you didn't choose them when you built it. Also, do you need 6 GB of ram? What do you actually do? Considering you're asking questions, I don't think you'd need the ram in the first place.

Pretty much i want it for gaming lol. Is it the montivina and also is there a way to allocate more ram to a game because burnout paradice only uses 1 gb of ram i would like it to use more so i can make it run faster and i still have a lot of ram left over.
Iam guessing its not because it is a older processor
ThANKS FOR THE FAST REPLY -
Adding RAM will not give noticeable gains for gaming. Dont waste your money adding RAM to improve your gaming capability.
-
Thanks guys so Iam better to stick with 3gb instead of 4.
Anyways is there a way to allocate more ram to a program. Please help me on this -
The operating system does that for you.
-
I meant can I allocate more ram to a program.
-
No, because the user has no need to. The Operating System will allocate however much memory the program needs to it.
-
Okay thanks.
