Hey everyone, just registered as I am in the market for a new notebook - make that my first ever notebook.
Basically, my home PC is on its last legs, and I want a quality replacement that will last me multiple years. I hate shopping![]()
I decided on the new m1330, and I have been reading about it in the forums so far. Seems pretty popular, and I want to get it especially considering I am going to be travelling all around the next few years.
The problem is, I live in Australia, and the pricing mentioned by everyone here has me baffled. I have no idea whether or not my Dell configurations for the 1330 are any good. So, the basic list I came up with is this (hope those in the know already understand these specs):
T7300
1 year complete cover
4GB RAM
8400GS
160GB 5400RPM (should I get the 7200RPM? THis is my only choice I haven't decided on)
6-cell
WLED display, 1280x800
TOTAL AU$2477.20
I realise this seems like alot, by Aussies usually pay more, I just have no idea, if this is meant to be any good. Also, should I get a longer coverage program and, how does Dell work with customers who take their products overseas?
Any advice would be great, I'm keen to put an order in and put my outdated PC chunk to rest!
P.S. Dell have been chopping and changing their specs and ordering for the m1330 for a long while now, and my prices are always varying - is it better to pre-order for the best deals, or perhaps wait until it is released and they will suddenly hit the market with a bunch of awesome free upgrades?

Do you really need 4gb? 2gb is plenty in vista. Also if you want 4gb it might be cheaper to upgrade it yourself.

See, that's the strange thing. The website has two options for Dell configurations, one from $1799, and another from $2299. The $2299 is the one above, and comes with 4GB. I configured the same system, only with 2GB, in the $1799 menu, and it came to $2394, less than $100 difference for an extra 2GB. Either I am missing something, or Dell are getting a little shady.

4GB is good. 2x2GB SODIMM are going for about 150bucks now. I kind of wished I ordered mine with 1GB ram now. I'll ebay the 2x1GB SO-DIMM to recoup some of the cost.

That's actually a GREAT buy compared to US prices

That is a excellent price, and what I will be getting, but fully spec'd out. The funny thing is comparing Deal 1 to deal 2, both systems same configuration, fully spec'd out, Deal 1 $3880, Deal 2 $3470, that is a price different for the same system.

d94 - how did you get that price? Was that from the Drake thing or something? That's amazing...

Does Dell cover the computer if you travel overseas? I don't know what warranty option to get here, because I will be all over the place over the next couple of years.
Hey guys, any advice on this 1330 pricing?
