The boot.ini file in the root of the drive has two entries.

Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not tread from the selected book disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.

In the root of your C: drive there is a hidden system file named boot.ini there are two entries in this file. One points to the valid XP partition and the other points to an invalid partition. You can edit the file and remove the offending entry.

If you are not sure which is the good one, you can first change the title of one or both to make them more readily distinguishable.

Under XP it is a setting to show hidden and system files, but it might be easier to go to START then RUN and type notepad c:\boot.ini into the run box and run it.

2.In the box type : msconfig
    3.press ok
4.Now you can goto boot.ini and make the changes
