Yet another thread from me, can't seem to find anything that answers my questions :)

Anyway, here's what I've done / my question:

It just came to my mind, when the PC Hibernates it dumps everything to HDD. The HDD doesn't need any power to keep the data. So I thought to myself, what if I unplug the power (battery out, too). Will it resume from Hibernation when I plug the power back in... ?

... and the answer is YES, it resume from Hibernation in less than 5 seconds!!! I repeated it again, leaving the power cord disconnected for 10 minutes, thinking there might've been some residious charges left on some capacitors ... nope, same results!

So, the question is, WHY oh WHY would I ever want to shut down my PC / Laptop anymore, unless I need to reboot after some installation ... ?

    Whatcha guys think?
    Thanks,
    Umpa

To clean the tubes because they can get clogged would be the only reason to reboot. I put my i9300 to sleep all the time, only rebooting about once a week.

Yeah. XP gets really crufty, especially if you run memory-intensive apps and such. I reboot about once or twice a week, for updates and when things start acting funny. I also shut down most apps before I go into hibernate mode. It tends to be more stable that way.

It is pretty much a user preference as you can see. Personally, i hibernate all the time since my 9300 is slow with shutting down. Second, some users state that hibernation is worse than shutting down, but I can't remember what the exact reason was.

I've had computers that would take longer to hibernate then they would to shut down... But I'm sure it was because of all the junk they had on them, they weren't personally owned by me so I couldn't reformat them.

Hey SG, did you by any chance enable the "Clear pagefile on shutdown" option using TuneXP? That option can improve bootup time but it can significantly increase shutdown time.

Your posts help so many people here (including me). Thanks for everything! :)

Exactly. The speed increase between a full boot vs. coming back from hibernation (de-hibernate?) isn't enough for me to warrant the extra disc space used for hibernation.
