I started noticing a high pitched buzzing. It is coming from the very bottom far left, at the left speaker port. It comes in and out every half second or so, not constant.
I am probably going to open up the whole thing to try to localize more to see if it is the speaker itself. My volume settings don't change it at all like muting it or anything. I guess the most logical explanation is a loose cable or something like that.
Anyone else had similar? I did a search and found a thread where it was coming from hard drive.

it happens on my E1505. I don't think anything of it because it hasn't affected it's performance.
btw, is that right? affected? or should it be effected?
now im pretty sure it's affected.
man i need sleep. Goodnight. -
It annoys me a lot so I'll pursue a replacement of whatever is causing it, if I can figure that out.

i have that problem with my macbook, turn out (as i expected) it was the faulty CPU fan. the e1705 has two fans right? one for the ur CPU and one for the GPU. but i notice u've said its below ur arm rest.. so i dunno. is it still under warranty? i think its worth it to call dell first.
good luck -
well is it that loud....
nothing a bit of music cant get overlol
well if its that loud and cant find the problem i suggest that you talk to dell customer support

cheers -

In any case, it's better to try customer care first. -
It is either the fan or the HD. lots of people have been complain about it -

Im at Dell Headquarters in Austin, Texas and I wanted to add to the thread. I agree that you'll probably have to dig down to find out where it's coming from but when you do figure it out post back here or send me a message and we can go about fixing it.

It can even come from the LCD inverter. Try changing different levels of brightness & check if one or two of the brightness levels do not have this buzzing sounds.

and that worked like a charm ! No more annoying high frequency sound. -
metalblaze is correct. This is actually a very common problem with all Dell Inspiron and Latitudes. It is very faint and only occurs when the CPU is in a low-power state. While the computer is under load (working) the noise should disappear. I found the same fix metal-blaze is talking about, but specifically for Inspirons located here:
http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=109365&highlight=high+pitch+noise
Neil you might also take a look at this as well, as a lot of people are having this same issue. My new Inspiron E1405 had the same symptoms, and I sent it back to Dell and got a new motherboard put it but the noise was still there. I found the above posted and tried the RMclock and now everything is silent. So give it a shot and let us know =)
