    High pitch noise...Screen goes black.

    Dell Inspiron B130.

    When you turn it on the screen lights up about 5 seconds into post it starts making a high pitch noise on the bottom left of the LCD srceen.

    Then it suddenly goes black and the noise stops...It will run a monitor through the VGA connector.

    I thought it might be the magnetic reed switch.

    But with this high pitch noise it is making me think it is the inverter, but I really do not know.

    Anybody ever heard something like this ???

    Your inverter or backlight is almost certainly at fault here. Sadly, I don't think there's a surefire way to tell. For the most part, if the screen is kind of reddish at boot, it's more likely the backlight; else, it's most likely the inverter.

    Backlights are really a pain the butt to replace, but inverters are fairly easy. Both parts are nonetheless fairly cheap:
