Hi all
I just got my M1730 and I have been trying to read the 256+ page owner thread but jesus that thing is out of control now so I decided to make a new post. The subject is simple extracting max performance from this rig.
My configuration is
T7700 Processor (anyone able to overclock this thing?)
2Gb of ram (thinking of switching to 4Gb recommendations? Thinking of Mushkin)
2x200 GB Raid 0 128k stripe
Vista Ultimate 32bit
8700 SLI
So far what I have done is download the run 3dmark06 with factory settings and got a result of 7834. Then I downloaded 167.45 drives from Dell website and got a result of 8401 with the following tweaks.
Under "Manage 3d Settings"
Antialiasing - Transparency [Multisampling]
Force mipmaps [Bilinear]
Multi-display/mixed-GPU accel [Single Display performance mode]
SLI performance mode [Force alternate frame rendering 2]
Texture Filtering - Negative LOD bias [Allow]
Texture Filtering - Quality [Performance]
I recommend you guys take a look here for tweaking www.tweakguides.com
And finally I downloaded the 169.25 drivers from laptoptogo and used rivatuner to do a slight overclock to the cards. I am using the clock settings of 750 core 1500 shader 890 Memory Mhz clocks, and tweaks And got a 3dmark06 score of 9055. I am not sure what I am missing that others are getting into the high 9K mark.
So if you have a similar setup or have some additional tweaks you like to share please follow up and post.
Overall I can't say I am displeased with the results as the machine is rock solid and I gained about 15% with little effort.
There is a couple other issues that I probably need to get figured out.
1. The display has an non uniform black level and some leak thru. What is the ideal panel to have?
2. I use this laptop on my sofa alot bought a coolermaster pad which allow this laptop to fit nicely on however. I don't like how holds it in place and worried it may scratch the finish.
Post your marks and tweak if you got any better results please.

bump anyone got any feedback?

What display do you have? The problem is, most people only have a 1280x800 or 1440x900 display, skewing the 3DMark results. So if you see super-high numbers and you can't figure out why you're not getting them, you're probably running at a different resolution.
3DMark05 defaults in 1024x768 and 3DMark06 defaults in 1280x1024. If your display can't handle either resolution, 3DMark chooses a lower resolution.
FWIW, I have an 8600M GT and your scores are double what I can possibly achieve. -
My display is 1920x1200 however I run at the default settings of 1280x1024.
I am kind of hoping to see if anyone has been able to achieve better numbers maybe running Vista 64bit with 4G ramor maybe Just with Windows XP instead. -
