Are you able to buy replacement hinges for the E1705?

My notebook is only 2-3 months old and its already gettin pretty wobbly. I would like to replace them and just try not to close / open it as often.

If it holds the lcd in place at any angle with out moving there is nothing wrong with it. Infact the looser it is the better. That way it will not stress the lcd when opening and closing.

You might check to see if your screws are tight. Mine were really loose, and the screen would have problems, so I tightened the screws. Since your laptop is new, you should be able to get new hinges from dell - just talk to their tech support.

I second this! When I first got my notebook the hinges were so tight that I felt like I was bending the LCD housing, you could hear it creak. So I purposely opened it fully and closed it a bunch of times until it loosened up some permenently, now it's perfect.

Mine was opposite. Mine were so loose that the LCD wouldn't stay up 3/4 of the time. It would start to slide back. Then one side was looser than the other, so it put alot of weight on one side. Mine are tight, but I open/close the lid without any force.

Would they send them too me or would I have to ship it out?

Also are talking about the screws that lay on the surface of main computer section? The problem with mine is the hinge... not just how the hinge is connected.

I would think that you'll have to have it shipped in or have a tech come out and do it. It's really not that hard though to replace them so you could try to talk Dell into sending them.

If you remove the hinge cover, you'll see the two screws that attach it to the base of the laptop. Then you'll have to remove the bezel, and you should be able to see another couple of screws as to where it is attached to the lid.

I had to have the back lid replaced before, and I can't remember if the hinges were preattached or if i had to do it myself. I've taken my display apart so many times that I really don't remember how it came.

Yes, I was talking about the screws that attach to the base. You can also adjust the screws that attach it to the lid, but I would check the screws that are attached to the base first as well as the screws that attach your bezel/LCD/back lid together (the 8 screws that you see when the laptop is open).
