I was watching a movie on VLC player, everything was fine.

Then suddenly the picture stopped moving but the sound was still alright..I couldn't exit from the player, no button worked aswell. (Whenever I pressed a button it did a loud "beep")

Then I decided to remove the network cable .. then the laptop went CRAZY.
It started doing "BEEP" "BEEP" "BEEP" really really fast over and over, it was so loud I thought my laptop is going to blow up or something.
While it was beeping the screen went black and I could hear some weird buzzing sound.

So I held the power button down for 10 seconds to turn off the computer..after I restarted it I couldn't find any evidence from the Event Viewer that anything ever happened. Not even a hungapp report.

What on earth was that? What caused it?

The only programs what were working on backround were WindowsBlinds, Reget, SetPoint, GoogleTalk and nVidia Control Panel.

No, it was quiet and how can a laptop overheat while watching a movie?
Heck it won't even overheat after I have played for 5 hours straight!

according to your sig its the overclocking that probably caused the instability.

It is possible, but how? The fan was very quiet, the laptop was practically cold.

I lowered my clock speeds now, but isn't there really any other explanation for this?

My computer crashes when I overclock too high sometimes, even when it is cool and quiet.

Cars can run out of gas while they are moving or sitting still.

A laptop can overheat if it is turned on and plugged in or using a battery.

Where people got the idea that "I was only usin a web browserz" to gauge heat or anything else is beyond me. A fan could have failed and not have been cooling correctly. A heatsink could have popped off and a component overheated. Based on what you are saying, it sounds like your laptop overheated to me.

watching a movie actually does take processing power.
