So, I just woke up, and did the usual roll over and call the Dell woman deal...AND MY ORDER IS IN TESTING! I called 3 times because I couldn't believe it!
As far as my story goes, I ordered on 7/24, a CSR "accidentally" cancelled my order, and I had to have it reinstated on 8/2. My ESD moved from 8/10 to 8/31.
I'm hoping that I have the fortune of those who moved from testing to shipped in ~5 hours. Keep up hope! I'll keep the info coming as it comes to me.
*****EDIT*****
Here are the statuses of the Ruby Reds that I know of off the top of my head. Post here and I'll keep this edit updated with all Ruby Red info.
Alright, my Ruby Red has shipped! Moved to boxing on 8/11, and shipped today (8/14).
Farelli09's Ruby Red moved into boxing this morning (8/14).
Hendo's Ruby Red shipped on 8/11.
Spiralspektrum's Ruby Red moved into testing 8/14.

Say, what's the number to call for that automated woman who tells you status??? Is it the same for people in Canada?
-
Looks like we ordered the same specs. Hope I'm as lucky as you are.
Called the Dell woman and I'm still in production -
-
Ok......... so.......... I called in... and apparently my order shipped on July 21st, 1998....??? lol This woman is on something rough!! HAHA
I think my number must be linked to a Canadian Dell server and she confused it with an order that occurred in the states with my exact order number. :S -
Meh Mine still says In Production....
Congrats though -
Maybe I should get my order reinstated...I feel like they forgot about my order after all this time.

Just moved from testing to boxing. I almost feel bad just cause I know how many people have been waiting so much longer than myself for their orders. Don't really know what to say other than keep your hopes up, and I'll keep you updated.
-
My order date was 3 days before your reinstated order date and my esd is 8/28 3 days before your esd of 8/31. Same specs. How does Dell decide who gets laptops??

I have no idea, but it's completely unfair. I was told that my order was being "expedited", and most people say this has no effect, but perhaps maybe it does. Again, I don't really know what to say other than cross your fingers and hope you'll be next.
-
Well Hopfully we are right behind you. But do tell us how you like it and such becuase my setup is exactly the same as yours.

Will do. I plan to post pics and stuff when it arrives (assuming I'm not one of the unlucky ones who move from boxing to build). I'll keep this thread updated. Good luck to all you other Ruby Reds

EB8519, Unfortunatly us Canadians don't have a number to recieve accurate order status. I found that out the same way you did when I called and found my order had shipped on October 2nd 1999. The best way to find order status is to talk to a CS rep online (unreliable, I know) or to call this number: 1-800-847-4096 then 1 - 2 - 1. It's not automated so you have to actually talk to a rep and stay on hold for about 20-30 minutes(if you are lucky).
-
You inspired me to check my status (again) but sadly it's still in the *#@! build stage. Please let us know how fast things go from here.
-
so what can I do to get dell to remember that I placed an order?
-
I believe all this depends on the method by which we book the order. I booked my dell laptop online through their website and my friend booked it by calling a dell representative over phone...We both ordered on 25-Jul. He got his laptop on hand on 31-Jul (Ofcourse I ordered a Ruby Red model and he ordered a Jet black). I guess when you book with a representative, they personally follow it up as it will be against their name that they got Dell new order...I guess they will even get incentives for this...so push it fwd fast...
Just my theory...might be different...(The incident which triggered this thought in me was...that when calling customer care there were two options...one number to press if I had ordered it online and another if I had ordered it through a Dell rep.) When the ordered in this was reinstated, since it was through a rep...I guess it got processed soon...
If my theory is true...then it is unfair... -

I ordered online originally. I suppose it could be said that I ordered through a rep the second time since I had to have a CSR reinstate my order. I still believe that Dell is simply trying to save themselves money by not dumping a ton of it into their back end software and their CSRs (as evident by the crap ass quality of both). I'll be sure to keep following up here. As of now, still in boxing.

Just got off a lengthy chat session. I was told that the red covers are on backorder and that mine still will not ship until 8/28. I did get a free carrying case out of it. The irony is I was told I will probably receive the carrying case before I receive the laptop

I think the powers to be in India are getting tired of my calling and chatting with them. I got this email right after my chat session:
We are emailing to give you an update on the status of your order, # *********.
Although we had anticipated being able to ship your order sooner, we are experiencing an unexpected delay and we will not be able to ship your order until Tuesday, August 28, 2007 . If you do not want to wait, you may cancel your order receive a prompt refund (by emailing 1-877-868-3355). Otherwise, we will continue working hard to get your order to you.

my girlfriends ruby red 1520 was supposed to ship but it got delayed till the 21st yet again. lol Gotta love dell for delaying you for 7 days and then saying oh its still delayed so lets just add on another week. Probably better if they just make the date 8/28 lol.

WOOOHOOOO!!!
It's in testing!!!
not sure how long it stays in testing / boxing but I hope to have it by this weekend!
(free next day shipping) -
Congrats! I'm glad some of the reds are finally getting out there!!
I am waiting on a ruby red too, hoping it will be on its way soon, build stage since 7/23. -
Your order should be here soon, I ordered just before you and I got items that got delayed it even more such as the video card and the 2.0gig processor.
And if the whole batching process is accurate where they do certain configurations at once, you should get it in no time...
Have patience!
PS: It's in boxing already, YAHOO! -
I also have a ruby red 1420. It's nice.
-
Does anyone have the same config as me?
Hope for Ruby Reds!
