So my desktop crapped out yesterday, a curse and a blessing all in one. I bought a 14" HP dv2312us a couple of months ago exclusively for school work, but now I am planning on selling it (for minimal losses lets hope!) and buyin a 1520 to replace both my notebook and desktop. I'm confident with an 8600 in it, the notebook will be plenty capable of playing any games i'd need it to (City of Heroes, WoW are about the only things i've played lately) and hopefully a little bit of Crysis, it does look awesome.

After speaking with a Dell Rep, I think I've got my system all set, would just like any final thoughts from the kind folks on these forums.

    Here's the Specs:

    Inspiron 1520 Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
Operating System (Office software not included) Genuine Windows ® Vista Home Premium Edition
    System Color Midnight Blue
Memory 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
LCD Panel Anti-glare, widescreen 15.4 inch display (1280x800)
    Video Card 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8600M GT
Hard Drive 160G 7200RPM SATA HDD
Network Card and Modem Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
    Adobe Software Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 7.08
Combo or DVD+RW Drive CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
Sound Card High Definition Audio 2.0
Wireless Networking Cards Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card
    Camera Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
Office Productivity Software (Pre-Installed) Microsoft Works 8. DOES NOT INCLUDE MS WORD
Anti-Virus/Security Suite (Pre-installed) I chose Security with Value, Plus,or Premium Warranty Bundle
Battery Options 85Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)
Limited Warranty, Services and Support Options DellCare Plus
Dial-Up Internet Access No ISP requested
Bluetooth Options Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)
Dell Digital Entertainment No Entertainment software pre-installed
Doms Camera Module Midnight Blue color w/ 2.0M pixel Camera
Processor Branding Intel® Core™2 Duo Label
    Labels Windows Vista™ Premium

The price he quoted me on the phone was about $1481, he tweaked some stuff so I saved money on crap i didnt need (like the online storage i think).

I've got just a couple of hangups.

One is the screen. I really want Anti-Glare, and the lower resolution would let games run a lot smoother at native res. Plus, I have a 19" widescreen I can hook it up to any time I'm at my desk, so I don't feel a need for more 'real estate' as they say.

The other is the ram. I planned on getting ram elsewhere to save 80$ or so, but the rep said that if that ram were to cause any kind of problem, the warranty wouldn't cover it, so I feel safer just going with Dell's ram and saving the trouble. Any thoughts?

I think thats all. It sucks that the 200$ coupon stopped stacking (forgot to mention this is through EPP) yesterday, the rep didnt seem very optimistic about getting it to work, so I think that's a dead bird at this point. I'm hoping to order it tomorrow, he said it'd ship by July 19th, not tooooo far off! Thanks for any advice!

Excellent choice on the 1280x800 screen. I did the same on my 1520. Who plays a game above that resolution anyway? The blur from playing on a larger resolution screen when down sizing to a lower resolution is supposed to be terrible. I chose the anti-glare because I have a lot of light from windows but, if you don't you might want to get true life.
One big concern with upgrading the RAM after words-- one of the RAM slots is underneath the keyboard and you have to take it off to get to it. Someone on this forum has pictures how to do it and I'd rather not mess with it.
    Looks good otherwise
