**** Just got off the phone with several people at DELL..... 9200 does not have the new technology only the 700m ****

I am a little disapointed! how about you guys?

I just ordered my Dell 9200 (Currently using and happy with Dimension 4100) and talked to a sales rep on the phone asking if the monitor is comprable to a Sony X-brite and Toshiba TruBrite. He didn't know so I said the way to tell is if the screen has a glossy finish on it vs a dull flat finish. He checked with a manager and was told that it is deffinatley glossy finish and out performs any other monitor on the market. SOOOOO I ordered the 17" UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display. I still feel as though this guy didn't know what I was talking about.. can anyone confirm this

    Thanks

No one can confirm it yet since it's just shipping. Check back in a few days... some people might have gotten theirs by then.

    185 cd/m2 (nits)

This is what it says in there spec page.
This has the same spec as my 8500 and the 8600 so it may not have the extra bright stuff but keep posted!!!

I have the same question because according to the site the 8600 series now comes with the ultra sharp screen. However I just received mine and there is no glossy coating. Can anyone confirm a glossy on either model?

The Inspiron 700m screen is definitely bright and glossy, the 8600 is not. I fully expect the 9200 will have the same screen as the 700m (but much larger of course).

Well this all seems reasuring... I will be really disapointed if it doesn't have the latest technology when it comes to the screen. Working at Best Buy seeing some of our lowest quality laptops having some kind of new brightness technology and not being able to get it on a near top of the line Dell will be a slap in the face.

ive seen those with the glossy lcds and i somehow dont like it. if the light is behind you, it reflects and bothers me but i still like the extra bright technology they have on new laptops

FYI, a few people people on Notebookforums.com have gotten theirs, and have posted pics and first impressions. Still waiting on a review or 2 though ;)

I got mine the other day and it does not have a glossy screen. But the picture on this screen is great, very bright and clear. You won't be disappointed. I love this laptop. It is excellent, super quiet and stays very cool.[ :)]

MELONS: do you have the UXGA or the WXGA+ I'm getting the UXGA and I'm a little concerned because its not as bright as the standard LCD that dell offered. 185nits vs 200nits

I got the wxga+. It is very bright and the text size is just right, you really don't want it any smaller, in my opinon. I would get the wxga+. I am glad I did. But either way your going to love this thing. I have been playing with it for two days now and I can't get off it.

The whole thing is very solid, no flex in the keyboard or the lid behind the moniter. The sound is very very good, one of the, if not the best sounding laptop I ever heard. I have played halo for hours and it does't even get warm and the fans, you can't even hear them at all. You guys are going to love this thing.[ :)]

ok, it seems that the 9200 screen is not brighter than a Sony X-Brite or a Toshiba TrueBrite. However, can someone tell me if this screen delivers a sharper picture and deeper colors than the one of the Dell 8600 or 9100?

    thanks for helping.
