I returned my Dell notebook back to Dell in late June so it was delivered to them on July 2nd. Throughout July, I rang in to Dell to check the status of my refund and the CSR's just kept giving me different dates. It is now August 5th, and my patience has worn thin  .

I have e-mailed, I have phoned, I have live chatted (all several times), what else can I do?

Report them to your local Better Business Bureau. Tell them you are reporting them first, that should get them shaken up a bit. If not, report them. Worked for my mom who returned her defective Inspiron 9300 after about 4 repairs to the LCD screen and several claims by dell that it was not covered by warranty (LCD had the infamous vertical bar that blanked over a third of the usable area on the display.)

It takes 21 days from the date they receive it to issue a full refund.

    :D

KrieGLoCK, that doesn't help, the fact that the notebook was ACCEPTED back to Dell on July 2nd (as well as the defective replacement), justifies enough reason Dell is twiddling their fingers. In fact, I had forgot to add, in the mail yesterday, Dell sent me a reminder to buy a Dell Warranty for this returned notebook. Yet, on July 2nd, the defective replacement notebook was processed immediatly!

21 days would've put it at July 23rd. By all means he should've recieved the check or credit to his account by now.

What a joke, called Dell and indian woman said they will be down for 3 hours. I fired off an e-mail stating I want compensation for having to wait this long, and my full refund. We'll see! If Dell can't deliver, I am calling my bank.

Call the BBB first. You'd be surprised. Before you bring the bank into this, try them. It'll get Dell more bad marks for Customer Service (they've got PLENTY.)

Call your bank and tell them you are in dispute with dell over a failure to deliver their product in a reasonable amount of time. Then tell them that you want to issue a charge back. They will get your money back. Then you can let Dell know that they can cancel the order because they aren't getting paid anymore.

There is seriously no reason I can think of for it to take this long. You should have escalated this a long time ago.

Called my bank, told them everything about not getting my refund for my returned notebook that Dell received on July 2nd, 2008. Dell just gives me the run-around.

What did the bank say to you? I forgot to add that it can take awhile to process those sometimes. The good thing is that you don't get screwed. I think once the money is out in Limbo, if you should get Dell involved at all, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to express ship you something else. Personally, at this point, I would take a refund and NOTHING else. You can always order something else later.

You are returning a new system correct? It is really poor form for a company to tie a person up so bad over something as simple as a refund. Like seriously, it gives me a hostage complex just thinking about it. Like they just delay delay delay until you give up and accept some crappy compromise. Or none at all. Just think about what it would be like if you could actually knock on their door and do the same process. It would go a lot differently.

I bet you'll get the refund tomorrow or something like that, it's always like that.

Also you should of posted this in the Dell forum, not the Inspiron section. Would of gotten a few more replies I'm sure.

I returned a new system received defective in several parts. It was the Dell Inspiron 1525. The replacement was defective too, but it was processed immeadiatly once Dell received it July 2nd.

My bank will temporirily credit me the $968.00 until the investigation is complete, but I am sure it will be mine. Had to do something similair with another company before also and no problems, but the woman on the phone was completly understanding.

Well then I am glad to hear it. I have to say, that experience would definitely leave a sour taste in my mouth. You have almost waited long enough to see a new gen of parts show up! Lol.

I hope that it doesn't discourage you too much, although I wouldn't be surprised if you decided to go elsewhere for a new lappy. Might I suggest Newegg? Occasionally they have newer models at good prices. No matter what happens, I hope you get this behind you soon. Good luck! And remember, get your money and re-order if you want, but at this point, do not put yourself in a situation where someone might promise you delivery ect. ect. and delay you further. Hundreds of people order these things everyday, and most of us wait more than a couple weeks I'd bet.
