Ive heard that if you call them up while ur notebook is in production and you say that you want to take something off the configuration. They will give you something for free to stop you from asking questions and re ordering. Has anyone here had any experiences like that?

That is not true.
-
I'm not certain of the validity of that; sometimes if you complain about how long "boxing" is taking, they'll upgrade your shipping for free, though.
Although frankly, I find what you're describing to be a bit unethical, if you're only threatening to change your order to try to get free stuff. -
I know the upgrade shipping is true since that happened to me. The only times that I've known dell to give anything free is if you contact them about a problem and they can't fix it right away. There was a post on here a few weeks ago where someone contacted Dell to get the OS CDs, but Dell told the user to contact someone else and gave them a $50 coupon (not sure of the terms).
Like lowlymarine said, it would be unethical to me. Besides, even if that was true about changing systems, it wouldn't be worth it. The free stuff would be something minor, and you would have to wait another 3 weeks for your laptop. -
i bought an axim and i complained how long it took and they gave me a free usb cradle
-
Well they sure don't do that in reverse. The first girl I had talked to put down the wrong screen and wrong video card (both downgrades) and I tried contacting her right away but all I could get from her is she would address it on monday (sat night order). Well it had already been boxed and put on a truck by monday afternoon so I had to order a second one and will have to return the wrong one. I thought I might get at least a little discount since they messed up but oh well.

No, this can happen. When i ordered my first laptop, a dell inspirion 2200, a lousy system that came out to as much as my dell 6000 with the 750 off coupon. Well, i never even opened the original, and called dell to inform them i no longer wanted the 2200, and wanted to return it. Well, that didnt want me to do so, and had offered me a 175 dollar return off my purchase, hopping id end up keeping it. I really wanted the 6000 for it was a $1800 vrs. a $1100 system, so iturned it down.

I know from experience that the shipping upgrade is true. When i ordered mine, it had a delevery date of 5 weeks later. I could not and still can not see how it takes 5 weeks to get a laptop to a customer. So I had called and complained and all they did was supposedly upgrade my shipping. So it took four weeks to get my laptop

I Love Dell! So i called and asked if i could substitute the free battery for a tv tuner, and they did it. The guy said he would send me a confirmation email with the new order #. I waited an hour and it did not come in my email. So I called again and I complained, and they gave me 1 day air.

that's great!!!!!...i should try 2 do sumting 2 get sumting free from Dell
-
I just emailed Dell today because Boxing had entered the two day phase and I wrote some crap about "build and testing have taken less time than boxing. Are the people at Dell really so incompetent that it takes them 2 days to put a computer in a box?" So I did it as if I hadn't read the messages on this forum. Guess what? I got free next day shipping and $100 dollars off my purchase as a "customer care" courtesy. I didnt have to battle for it at all.
-
damn...i should've done that 2
...ooo well...i still got a fairly good price 4 my 9300...so it's not that bad...lol
-
Could you please copy and past the email that you wrote in here? or pm it to me. OH and where did you send the email as well like what email address -
four years ago I bough a Inspiron 4000. Two day later the cd fails (i didn't try the cd b4) I called them up...and complaining about paying 2.5k and having a defective cd-rom...took me 5 min to talk to the supervisor....got her to send me a new battery (150$)....If you try and have a decent excuse...you might get something...

I didnt want your email address. I just could not find the dell email Address that I should send it to. As well I dont see what the harm would be if I sent a model of the one that you sent.

Unbelievable!!
Why does anyone believe they deserve something for free from Dell? Manipulating their customer service process for a "freebie" can best be described as stealing. You want something from Dell, or any other business, pay for it!
if you feel someone owes you something for nothing the following quote is worthy of consideration: "The laborer is worthy of his wages". No, that is not a piece of wisdom offered by me or Confucius. The author of this quote has many other relevant thoughts you may want to ponder. (If you don't know who the auther is - do a Google search.)
My Rant of the Day!!!!!!!!!! -
these people have no respect for working people
. they're just stealing money from dell's bottom line so that dell can't pay it's officers more money. when i'm executive officer, i'll create a division to filter out bad customers like them.
-
Yeah, let's stop harass Dell so they can pay all the workers in Asia 1.0001 cents instead of 1 cent .

If you morons think that, hey i have some B.S. reason why i could pester dell, so let me do it, be forewarned, you reputation will pay with them further down the line. So when you pull this off, keep this in mind for the furture if you do end up purchasing another dell. And you wonder, why do i have dead pixels, how come i didnt get this, and why is something taking so long, becasue the no longer give a dam about you. Besides, somewhere along this fine line some of you are thinking of walking, the boundries are what is legal and what crosses into fraud becomes bluried. Be at least somewhat resonable.
And you wonder why these Dell systems are so expensive. -
They're expensive because of all of their technical support staff taht they have dedicated to fixing your problems. It also creates a larger profit margin so they can afford to give out these freebies; it makes customers want to come back next time. I definitely will buy another Dell.
My 2 day old Inspiron 6000 had a defective LCD/Video Card/Motherboard (to be determined--the screen flickers on and off for about 2-3 seconds after I open my laptop lid--It's set to "DO NOTHING" when I close the lid...so the image should reappear right away). I contacted Customer Service through email the night I received my laptop, and exchanged about 5 emails describing problems/clarifying/exchanging service information...This started Tuesday, Today is Thursday, and I've arranged to have a technician come to my house tomorrow to repair all defective parts. Good job Dell!
*Hopefully, there really is a defective part and the screen flicker is an LCD failure or something...cuz if this problem doesn't go away, au revoir laptop.*
