i oc'ed my card to 600/465. I got 169.04 drivers. i get 4160 in 3dmark06. Here is how i can run crysis:
-res: 1280x800
-Settings: all medium except shaders and shadows which are both on low
-no AA
-getting 25 FPS average: very impressed how playable this is. Cant even ask for more. I usually take playability over eye candy and i decided to leave these settings b/c it doesnt impair game play.
So what about you ? post some settings / fps guys.
-
25 fps is very good and playable?
-
Well, it depends on the person, if you would like better visually, and don't mind a slightly slowed FPS, then go ahead and do that, or, if you want a smoother running game, lower some settings... its personal preference....
-
in most games 25 fps is not so good but in crysis its actually very smooth. try it out.

I didn't find 25fps smooth enough for me to play and get my monies worth. (<- personal expectations)
8600GT is the bare min you can use for this game and if this game is fun the 8600m GT doesn't do it justice but I from what I've played in Crysis it isn't the game that would casue me to think I need to upgrade my hardware. I couldn't find settings that made me feel comfortable but then a again I'm testing with Vista 64 Ult so maybe I would get 1 or 2 more fps in Xp but I don't think that would help my play comfort level.
Call of Duty 4 was damn sweet testing and it can make you feel proud you have a 8600m GT, Crysis won't do that for you.
Bioshock was like butter maxed out to.
DOD source and HL2 mods are perfect.
Unreal Tourny 3 Demo was playable and I was fairly Impressed.
3D 2005 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=3646976 vista64, and 203 more points in Win XP pro.
Just thought I would list this info for anyone looking to get similar specs in a laptop so you know what to kinda expect.(wish I had this info when I bought my sys)
-
well if it doesnt feel as smooth for you guys on 25 fps consider lowering the settings. when i set up my crysis, i left most settings on medium, and a good resolution too. the only thing i lowered were shaders and shadows.
im running vista btw. -
is everybody here running XP? i'm running vista w/ similar specs, and my framerate is terrible. not too surprising i guess
-
The very beginning of the game with the parashoot scene just takes forever and the island @ the bottom is hardly mapped! -
Isn't it odd that all the new games, UT3, COD4, Crysis, to name a few; run extremely smooth at such low frame rates?
I remember when games running anything lower then 60FPS seemed impossible to play... Times have changed... lol
Honestly, Crysis isn't worth the trouble. It's just good *** in the package of down town prostitute. Buggy graphics, poor physics and really crappie AI. All the reviews I've read that aren't paid to bloat it's reputation gave it a 3 out of 5 or 6.6 out of 10. But everyone has there opinions. Frankly the 3 big issues ruined it for me. I bought the game beat it and returned it.
But everything else pretty much runs amazing on the 8600m GT if anyone is wondering.
HL2 gets scary good frame rates. Roughly 250 - 300, maxed out with 8/16X AA and 8X AF..Damn I love this machine. -
i wont be buying crysis and just play the demo b/c i heard the multi player sucks .
Whats fun is the single player missions but i heard thats short. So why bother get a game that offers short SP and bad MP ? -
because its still a brilliant and revolutionary game?
-
Better graphic games come out all the time nothing revolutionary about that.
More like, progress; then revolutionizing gaming. -
Agreed, Crysis isn't anything to base a hardware purchase on; even though most sh!t I read seems to be the Par impression for it. (But those are sites that make money from misinformation)
This card is for sure the 9500pro of the 2nd half of the decade for laptops and I would guess its only gonna get cheaper. Also its twice as powerful off the hop as my Go6600 and its intro'd way cheaper for a gaming laptop.( and yes anything with a T7100+8600mGT can play 90% of all games at Medium/High settings.
Face it, gaming and mobility is here and cheap. -
to the original poster.... i get 3870 on 3d mark 06, on stock settings right now with no overclocking
i have the crysis demo and wa splaying it all on med settings with just the shader on low and it was alright,i only got to the bit where the island opens up where you see the water and your up above the transmitter thing tho
im gona play it again in a bit and test on dx9 and 10 (you can try both)
call of duty 4 runs fabulously with settings up and no lag at all
unreal tournament 3 demo runs brilliantly too
i have pro evo 2008 and that looks beautiful on high settings and runs like a dream on this machine (one of the reasons i upgraded was to pay this on high settings,my old lappy lagged on medium but played the last evo full wack)
basicly im gona be playing a lot of games from the last 18 months that my old machine wouldnt run proeprly like far cry and half life 2,doom 3 etc etc and the new games that come out that take my fancy and will run
i still love battlefield 2 aswell, im just gonna install that again in a bit and look forward to seeing it on this, my old machine ran that fine and that only had a x700 128mb in and a turion ! -
I've read on tomshardware that it's the game engine which makes it so slow even on the most powerful cards.
As a 8800GTX would have slow fps for Crysis, it would have steady 55-60 with UT3. So it's crytek's fault after all -
oh is it really? injek thats some interesting ideas you got there. i mean i noticed that crysis' graphics are great, and better than those in bioshock and cod4 and some other games. Still i dont find it THAT much better... in fact i only find the differences to be subtle. In any case thanks for sharing, if that is indeed true that may explain a lot of things.
-
25 fpsis very good i played other games where fps dropped to 23 and i didnt even notice difference...it still super playable
-
so is 25 fps with DX10 or DX9?
-
i would like to start playing this game, as ive been playing all the others through the years, but not sure how well ill be able to.
Cheers -

I have Acer 5920G with 8600M GT 512MB (DDR2), overclocked to 590/475 (around 4,2K 3DMark 2006 points @ 1280x800). LaptopVideo2Go drivers version 169.25.
Average: 20FPS (beautiful and playable @ settings specified above). -
I played the demo with medium-high and it was quite OK. And I use Vista.
-
hmm...i got 4300 in 3dmark06...which seems to be lower than most ppl score with GDDR3 8600M GT...i never did a clean boot...could that be the reason?
How Does Your crysis Run on the 8600M GT ?
