This thread concerns Dell UK, and their delivery firm Walsh Western.

My order was dispatched, and when I tried clicking on the link in Dell's Order Status page it just gave me the Track'N'Trace part of Walsh Western's site.

After trying to type in my details (customer no. and order no.), I found that they wouldn't work.

So what did I do? Well...

The customer number is GBXXXXXXX (7 numbers in my case)
The order number is XXXXXXXX (8 numbers in my case)

To make it work, do this

Cust No. = 02XXXXXXX (i.e. knock off GB and replace it with 02)
Order No. = 0XXXXXXXX (i.e. put a 0 before the order number Dell gave you)

It worked for me, and I hope it helps someone out there.

Please rep if it helped. Thanks :)

    Thanks for that!
I couldnt get it to work by just clicking the link but using the above method, it worked!

    Rep given! :)

So how do the Walsh Western delivery slots work? Do you choose which day you want? And do you get a choice between morning or afternoon? What times do they define as 'morning' and 'afternoon'?

as far as i know, you get a recorded message, and then you are told to press 1 for AM or press 2 for PM.

i am not 100% sure this will happen for everyone, but this was just my experience.

i also think AM is between 9am and 1pm, and PM is later than that.

once again, if you aren't sure when they will be delivering your laptop, i would give their customer service a call.

Walsh Western AM delivery = 8am to 12 midday

Walsh Western PM delivery = 12 midday till 6pm

the last couple of times I've used the automated service i couldn't choose whether it was am or pm, just the day, this was 3 weeks ago.

Thanks for that method, i'll try it in a few weeks when I order my 1330 with penryn :D

My laptop arrived today at 7:14am, I guess that it considered the start of the AM delivery then.

Just to be clear, Walsh Western didn't deliver my laptop, it was delivered by a Business Post van, but obviously Walsh Western are the ones who handle the packages for Dell.

I am pretty sure though that the normal delivery times, are those which leo7 has posted up.

Thanks for that. Worked for me too. God knows why dell dont give you the correct details.

I've looked on the Walsh Western site and apparently they've tried to contact me via phone. But the site says 'incorrect tele number'. What the... they DO have my correct number. GRRRR...............

Business post who are th actual couriers are not far from me, do you think i can pick it up straight from the depot?

If you click the link from the dell site it automatically populates these numbers for you. The reason is didn't show up straight away is because of a delay with the Walsh Western system; it's not real time but updating by a batch process.

Hey, I know this thread is pretty old but I don't know where else to ask...
I'm trying to track my Vostro 1520 but I get the 'They don't match' message.
Tried this method but my customer number (minus the GB part) is 8 numbers, so adding 02 to the start makes it 10 digits long, but the Customer number on the tracking thing needs to be 9 digits. Tried variations but I can't get it to work.
    Help, please?

Not sure if you've already sorted it out but i was having the same problem as you today i.e. replacing GB with 02 would make 10 numbers which is too many. Well, apparantly you've got to replace GB1 from the start of the customer number with 02. Add 0 to the start of the order number and that worked for me. Hope this helps if you havn't already sorted it.

For me replacing GB1 with 02 before the next 7 digits of Cust No.

and keeping the original 8 digit Dell Order no. worked !!

Meanwhile Walsh Western blame Dell and Dell blame Walsh and each thinks the other is fixing it!!

You wont be surprised that I had exactly the same problem 5 years ago!!

    Progress eh ??

    Weird.

EDIT: Left China on 27/11, reached Hinckley on the 1/12, delivery to me expected for 2nd Dec (tomorrow). :)

Ok, this is a repeated question, others have asked and I've seen answers posted but i'm STILL having issues! Maybe someone can help...

My order with Dell was marked as 'dispatched' on 18th December and the tracking info swiftly followed however I cannot track via Walsh Western at all! No matter what variation of customer number / order ref I use (GB1 replaced with 02 etc etc) I still get the 'Order number entered did not match the customer number' message...

    Any ideas out there?

    Thanks guys!
